I'm not very good at talking about myself (despite my obvious egotism). I'm good at talking about things I like or things that have happened to me, but not so much myself as an individual. I had an "informal interview" with the Chicago area admissions guy when I was at Wash U yesterday, and he asked me the normal questions, like what my strengths and weaknesses are and all sorts of stuff. But then he asked me more difficult questions, like what makes me unique. My first instinct was to say that my toes are very dexterous, but I figured that probably wasn't appropriate and I made up some dumb thing about how my combinations of interests are different than most people's. Not so great. And now I'm having an interview (on my cell phone, during my lunch hour) at school tomorrow with the woman who's in charge of the summer program I applied to. So guys, in case it happens to come up, what makes me unique?
Of course, if I get into this program, the whole Hawaii (!!!) trip gets confusing because I would have to go to a reunion in New York over break. I guess all I can do - if I get in - is pray that it's the other week or on either end of the band-chorus trip so that maybe I could work something out to meet up with everyone and only miss a day or two. Because... HAWAII. aowefoidsjlfsdk.
We went to Northwestern for our English thing today, and I feel like I accomplished a whole lot of nothing. But I fulfilled the requirements, so it should all be okay...? Hopefully. Joy and I talked a lot about college on the bus, which gets scary. She, Jodie, and I also bought a quart(?) of Phish Food ice cream at lunch, but then the 3/4 or whatever that we didn't eat melted in Jodie's bag, which was rather disappointing. Gross, too.
Oh, so at Wash U, along with seeing admissions man, I ran into Alec and Arielle, who were both visiting, and I met up with my counselor from three summers ago. She's a senior there and was really nice about answering all sorts of questions my family and I - mostly my mother - had. And it was funny - even though she's tiny (she looks our age or younger), she had this sense of maturity that you can totally tell college freshmen, like the ones who have come back to DHS to visit, still don't have. Unfortunately, the day that we actually spent on the Wash U campus (Monday) was cold and rainy, but I figured that if I like it in those conditions, I must really like it. The day before was gorgeous, something like 70, and we spent the afternoon visiting with my mom's cousins in their backyard. Seven kids under the age of eight (between two families) was a lot to deal with, but a ton of fun. Giving a camera to a 6-year-old yielded some interesting results.
End.
