So today I had my first day of class, but that wasn't until 3:30. So I'll summarize everything from last night until... tonight, I suppose.
I went to the ice cream social, and in the beginning I was just chatting with girls from my floor, and soon we borrowed some guys' frisbee and started playing ultimate. Eventually the guys who we borrowed it from came over and we went to a bigger quad and it became a real game, quite fun. I had a good time being kinda flirty with this one kid named Dylan who's rather dorky but kinda cute... he looks somewhat like a short Alex Rabisse. So then we went back to two of the girls' room and watched some Scooby Doo before retreating to a lounge that we have on the first floor, all the time still chatting with this kid. I'm not particularly smitten by him (well, honestly not much at all, but I'm still having fun), but this morning we passed on Thayer (the main street on campus with a lot of the shops) and we said hi in passing. He's only here for a week, and I didn't see him this evening, but we'll see what happens.
This morning I managed to sleep through jackhammers that apparently started at 6:30 until I woke up at 11. Casey, my roommate, showed me the way to the main cafeteria building and I met some of her friends, and later we went to Starbucks. I read Harry Potter and was online after that until we went to class, which was fine. It was mostly introductory stuff. My professor is a grad student who has us call her by her first name, and she's pretty nice. The timbre of her voice is a little annoying at times, but it should be a good class. I went to dinner at the same place I went at lunch with some of the kids from my class, Casey, Caroline (she's also on my floor - she's really sweet), Alex, and Lisa. We also met up with Alex's friend Neil, who was very cool. After dinner, all of us minus Neil went to Tealuxe (remember that little store thing in Boston, Hazel?) and played Taboo. Lisa and I totally dominated. Since then, we hung out in Lisa's dorm room, hung out in my and Casey's dorm room, went to two convenience stores (on the way to which we picked up Alex's friend Michael), then "partied" in the hallway with all our new food (including raw cookie dough) and randomly grabbed other people who were walking by and had them join our party. It was actually a lot of fun.
I don't blame you if you didn't read all of that.
There are so few midwesterners here. Most kids are from the northeast - a lot from Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York. I met one girl from Evanston, and there's a girl on my floor who lived in Highland Park until she was 10, but that's really it. There's a good handful from the west coast, like California and Seattle, and then there's people from random places like North Carolina and Alabama.
My class has very little homework compared to some. We have 40-some pages of our textbook to read, but it's a small book, actually paperback, and it shouldn't be too bad. I'll probably get started tonight and finish tomorrow since I don't have class until 3:30! So great. I think I'll go start that/read more Harry Potter (page 354... don't ruin it!)/maybe internet for a little while longer. So as a whole, everything's really good, I've made some nice friends, and I'm really liking it all. It makes me quite excited for college.
Hope everything's going well at home!
