I like what Diana stands for sometimes more than I like her. In terms of DC women, she's below both Lois and Barbara Gordon for me. But I do like her. I like what her mission means though in terms of the kinds of contributions that women can bring to a culture in a way that men are not capable of doing.

Lois/Clark is probably my favorite ship of all time. I don't ship them with anyone else but each other. I multiship with other characters but never with them.

I actually have a lot of problems with the idea of shipping Diana/Clark. It's kind of hard to explain. I actually find it offensive in some respects for both characters and disrespectful to both of their characterizations. That probably makes no sense.

On the one hand, I can totally understand why Clark would remarry after Lois's death. I think Lois would want him to remarry. I don't think she would ever want him to be alone. And I do think Clark, as a character (across all mediums) is the kind of person who doesn't do well alone. I think Diana is a good an caring friend who does love him deeply and would be a good companion so he wouldn't be alone. Like you said, I think it would be more of a comfortable relationship. I don't think it would be true love--at least not on his end. I've known enough people in my own life who lost their spouse in a tragic or difficult way to see that sometimes it's important to move on and remarry because life has to go on. So, in that respect, I totally understand why they sometimes end up together after Lois's death.

The problem I have is that while that all makes sense....it often seems to me as though when people ship Diana with Clark it becomes more about an immature fantasy of violent sex reducing both characters to nothing more than the sum of their powers as opposed to individuals. Superman usually gets reduced to just being a powerful being and loses all of his humanity and what makes him the farm boy from Kansas. Diana, the most powerful woman in the world, gets reduced to a sex object and often winds up pining after a man who will only ever see her as second choice. It also usually results in some kind of misogynistic comment about Lois as it often results in Lois being used as a plot device and having un-necessarily horrible violence inflicted upon her in order for the ship to happen. Lois--the character that was actually meant to be Clark's soulmate by Jerry Siegel---winds up brutally murdered or dying in childbirth in some horrible way. She becomes the woman in the refrigerator. And that...doesn't sit right with me on several levels. Brutally killing Lois so that Diana can be with Clark is a form of misogyny that I think has been abused too much by writers.

So all that is to say...there really isn't anything that I hate more than when people ship them together. I think it lessens both characters and I think there are always notes of misogyny in the narrative when it occurs. It's fine for a story like Kingdom Come (although I think there are major problems with Diana's characterization in that story) but I don't think it's ever something that should be repeated for either character. And for what it's worth, I don't like Diana shipped with Bruce either. I think as the only female member of the trinity she deserves her own true loves just like the men in the trinity as opposed to being the love interest for one or the other.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. LOL I'm not even sure if that makes sense.

Yes to all of this from the Lois > Babs > Diana ranking to the killing of Lois just so Diana & Clark can get together for "supersex." :P ESPECIALLY when the supersex is the core reason when, as you say, Clark as he's written now is a gentleman & a gentle man not a powerhouse.

I don't seek out stories where the Trinity pairs up (or threesomes up) but I've read fics where the ship(s) are side-plots to a good action/mystery & then I don't mind it. I can also see Lois/Clark inviting people into their kinky little lovefest because, hey, they're that comfortable & secure in their relationship. I do enjoy the occasional Bruce/Diana but because in the proper hands, I can see a similar complement of personalities as with Lois/Clark. But yeah, Lois/Clark is one of my 2 bulletproof OTPs. *smishes*

Truly, I think a lot of my objections have to do with the fact that the majority of people that I have seen who ship Wonder Woman with Superman (and I truly think that's how they see them---not Diana or Clark. But just the "super" identities) do so for very shallow reasons that have nothing to do with respecting WHO these characters are. And frankly, I've just seen too many immature teenagers AND writers talk about the violence that will be enacted on Lois for me to accept it. Most of the people who ship Supes/Wondy despise Lois and say horrible things about her. And I just love Lois way too much (and think she's too important as a feminine presence in the DC world) to ever abide by that. It's immature. It's gross. And I think it's very telling about the maturity level on a man when I see him talking like that.

I actually read a fic (by accident because it was on the Lois Lane tag) recently written by a guy that the woman from Dcwomenkickingass has gone at it with several times for some of his misogyny. And it was seriously the most out of character fic I have ever read. It was a story where Clark--totally in his right mind--tells Lois that he has to divorce her to protect his reputation. Which...I'm sorry....but if you honestly think that Clark Kent EVER asking Lois for a divorce is in character then you no virtually nothing about Superman. There's a reason why writers literally have to kill Lois off for any story where Clark winds up with someone else to make even the remote amt. of sense. lol

It's funny because despite what I said about Bruce/Diana...I do agree with you that there is something about their personalities that goes well together. (Whereas, I think Diana/Clark is an utter bore because they are way too similar.) I have read some fics where Diana is truly the only woman that Bruce truly feels that pull towards and I think that works because he just respects her so much.

But to be truthful, I think Selina is Bruce's soulmate in the twisted, mixed up world if Bruce were to have a soulmate. (Which I'm not sure he does. LOL)

And I think that's part of why I object to Diana being with either one of them. I think they both have other characters in their canon that they have stronger connections with and I don't think the only female member of the trinity should ever play second fiddle to another woman. And I think with both Clark and Bruce...she does. Not sure if that makes sense. But...all that being said....I have read some stories with Bruce/Diana that I liked.

I know some people like to ship Clark/Bruce/Lois and I get that to a degree. But the only way it works for me is if it's about the two of them loving CLARK. I really don't like it when I'm reading a Clark/Bruce/Lois fic and it becomes about an excuse for Lois and Bruce to have sex. That's way too out of character for me and that's usually my signal to close the fic.

Anyway, thanks for chatting! It's always fun to talk about these things and I do like hearing different perspectives!

Bruce's soulmate is Gotham City. Everyone else is just fleeting affair. ;)

My main objection to anyone in the Trinity getting together is my preference for gen stories & themes of friendship/family. I love the idea of these 3 being extremely good friends because/in spite of their roles as the pillars of DC.

Lovely chatting with you, too!

Oh you are so right about Bruce. hahaha. I would also argue that Dick is his soulmate.

I love the Nolan Batman movies but I remain sad that we will never see Dick and Bruce together in that universe.

And yes, friendship/family between the trinity for the win!!!

Again, I absolutely loved this story. I hope you write more soon!
