Ecstatic Ecomatic

As I left this morning to run errands before I had to slide down a giant cheese grater into a vat of lime juice go to work, I checked my mail box. I only check my box on days that I am expecting Netflix, which is about every other day- no TV remember, and as I was expecting The Life Of Birds disc 2 and the 70's sci-fi thriller Coma, I checked my box.

Inside were my bank statement (why they keep sending me paper statements, I don't know as I signed up for online statements ages ago) and a letter from Satsuma Gallery.

About 3 weeks ago, I submitted Ecomatic for a juried exhibition with said gallery. I almost didn't enter, as the gallery is in N. Hollywood and the images I had taken of the piece weren't that great (long story, longer than this one is turning out to be at least...), but my friend and avid supporter Daniel talked me into it, even taking my entry materials to the P.O. for me.

I looked at the envelope. Accepted? Rejected? I wasn't ready for that kind of pressure at 8am. I decided to put the envelope in my bag and wait until I stopped for coffee after errands to read it. 30 minutes later, enjoying a cup of free trade java, I slid my finger under the flap and tore... Congratulations, your entry: Ecomatic (12/05) has been selected for the New Beginnings show at Satsuma Gallery. (you probably figured that, lest the title of this post would not be "Ecstatic Ecomatic")

I about wet myself right there on the sidewalk.

I immediately speed-dialed Daniel who is in Albuquerque visiting his family. We screamed and jumped up and down and all the other things you do when you're ecstatic- even if you're at a cafe and people are staring. I felt like I had just won a new car on The Price Is Right.

That was the first juried exhibition I entered- ever, and that is my first acceptance letter- ever. I think I'm going to frame it with the show card as a motivation to keep on keeping on...

Now, I have to figure how I am going to get it down there (it is going to arrive in LA 2 days before I do (AIDSLifecycle remember... you can sponsor me here.)). Craters and Freighters want $600 to crate and freight it, and $200 just to freight it. I'd like to send it in a crate (which of course I can build and have built in the past- where years of gallery experience pay off) but I don't think UPS will take a wooden box. Hmmmmmm, I have time to figure it out, but any advice is appreciated.

Also, I have to figure out how I am going to get myself down there for the opening on the 24th of June 'cause you know I am going. Watch out Smell Eh, a hot injection of Neelness is on the way...

Oh yeah, first prize is a solo show ('07) in their gallery, and second and third prizes are a group shows (also '07). Keep those fingers crossed- more that the piece makes it to LA okay than that I win...
