He's a Reverend from Kansas and apparently he believes that homosexuality is so wrong that he travels all over the country protesting large productions of this play. My director is from the University of Virginia and they did this piece a few years ago and he protested there too.
In '98 he went all the way to Wyoming to protest outside of the funeral. And he also protested outside of the court house the day of Russell Henderson's (one of the accused murderer's) trial. And that's where all the angel action and stuff came in. It's pretty crazy.
