Naruto had only one thing to say when he received the invitation to Hatake Kakashi and Haruno Sakura’s wedding:

“What the hell?!”

(Needless to say, the rest of the village’s reaction was similar.)

-
Sakura glanced at Naruto, who was currently halfway through destroying the third training ground. “D’you suppose we could’ve at least told him that we were dating?”

Kakashi shrugged. “We could’ve.”

“You were the one who didn’t want to tell anybody.”

“Well, imagine what they’d say about me! ‘Kakashi, the old pervert, has finally pulled the last straw!’”

She giggled. “Well, that’s true. Naruto will deal. Right?”

When a tree tipped over and hit the ground with an earth-shattering intensity, he nodded. “Right.”

-
Sakura’s vow went like this:

“So when it comes to marriage, people think about…babies and a white picket fence.” Kakashi flinched. “But it’s not always like that. When I marry you, it’s like…a promise, I guess. A promise of forever.” Sakura cringed at the cheesiness of her own words. “And we can’t give each other much, since either of us could die at any given moment”-she laughed, but nobody else found it really funny-“but I know that when I fall asleep at night, hearing you breathe next to me…that’s enough. You’re more than enough.”

There was silence. Sakura blanched.

“Sorry, that was really, really lame. I didn’t know what else to say.”

And Kakashi’s vow went like so:

“Well, actually, I couldn’t really come up with anything without drowning in how flowery and purple it was, so after a week or two, I just gave up…”

More silence.

Sakura shrugged. “Sure, okay. Can we hurry this up? This dress is really itchy.”

-
The only way Sai could describe this wedding was odd. He had read about weddings before attending this one, and…well, he didn’t think things were supposed to happen this way.

The after-party could be considered a dance party. Naruto and Kiba were drinking each other under the table, and Sakura and Ino were definitely doing weird things on the dance floor. Kakashi was off reading Icha Icha on the side, even though this party was clearly for him, and someone had spiked Lee’s milk.

But the strangest thing that happened had to be when an ANBU raced into the place, approaching the tipsy Hokage.

“Uchiha Sasuke was spotted at the main gates!”

-
The point of returning at night was to avoid a big commotion.

So what the hell was this about?

The last time Sasuke checked, this time of day was for sleeping…so why exactly were there so many familiar faces standing before him? It was giving him a headache.

“Sasuke!” Naruto burst through the crowd, and he easily sidestepped the pounce. “You’re finally back!”

Sasuke stared incredulously at the gaping shinobi. Practically everyone was here. Did someone tip them off about him returning at this time, or something? Well, actually, he didn’t even know when he’d be back until just a while ago, so that was impossible…

So what the hell was happening?!

Sakura was the first to recover. “Sasuke-kun! Hi! Um, you’re a little late, but we could drag on the party a bit longer!”

Party? What party? “I feel no need to attend a party.”

“Oh, but-I’d really like it if you came…”

He glanced at her. Was it her birthday? “The thought is kind enough.” Brushing past her and the rest of the people, he made his way back to the apartment that he hadn’t touched in years. He’d had to start cleaning tomorrow immediately…

Murmuring was heard behind him, and he heard Yamanaka Ino’s voice. (There was no mistaking it. He could recognize that shrill tone anywhere.) “Don’t worry about it, Forehead. Kakashi-senpai will cheer you up tonight, hm? Where is he, anyway? Geez, he’s already failing as a husband…”

Sasuke stopped in his tracks.

Kakashi…a husband? And Sakura’s, at that?

-
And they would be returning right about…now.

“Kakashi! What are you doing, lazing around and reading porn? You clearly heard that Sasuke-kun was back!” Sakura stalked up to him with Naruto at her heels. The Hyuuga compound was now being cleaned up by some maids, and Kakashi was the only actual guest still around.

“Ah, well, I figured that right now wouldn’t be the most ideal time to meet him. I was thinking about dropping him a visit in the morning.” He raised a hand at the Uchiha who was walking cautiously behind Naruto. “Yo.”

Sasuke’s eyes flickered to Sakura’s ring. And then to Kakashi’s.

After training that kid years ago, when he was just becoming an insane, one-track-minded psychopath, Kakashi had an idea of how his mind worked. And so:

“Yeah, we’re married. Just today, actually. Too bad you didn’t come earlier, huh?”

Sasuke stared at him for a really long time, and Kakashi smiled. Then, he turned on his heels and walked off.

“Oh. I made him mad.”

-
“Y’know,” Sakura said, snuggling up to him, “I always thought today would be crazy, but I didn’t think it’d be that crazy.”

Kakashi shrugged. “These things happen.”

“No they don’t!” She glared at him through the darkness. “You had months to prepare your vows-how could you not come up with anything? That’s, like, impossible! And Sasuke-kun-I don’t know, but to be honest, I kind of forgot about him for the past couple of months. Who knew he’d show up today, of all days, huh?”

“Mm.” Pulling her closer, he nuzzled her hair. He was sleepy. She’d probably continue rambling, and not realize that he had fallen asleep.

“But…” She relaxed in his arms. “I’m glad.”

“That’s good.”

“Love you.”

“You too.
