title: ten ways sai tries to win sakura over
pairing: saisaku
summary: because a haiku isn’t a poem. really.
notes: gloria’s going to make a comic of this. :3 i’ll link it here once she finishes it!
10. He got her flowers. Unfortunately, they were from the Yamanaka’s, and when Ino realized who the recipient of the flowers would be, she wrapped up a bouquet of lilies for him-flowers that she knew Sakura was allergic to.
9. He took her out to dinner. Except, he had gone to Naruto for advice beforehand, so Sakura found herself surrounded by cup ramen behind the Yondaime’s head. Sai thought that she was actually a little impressed, until she “accidentally” punched him unconscious.
8. He wrote her a poem:
Roses are red, violets are blue
Your boobs are small, but I guess you’re still cool
That one didn’t go over very well either.
7. So he wrote her a haiku instead.
You are beautiful
When you’re not PMSing
But you always are
Tsunade saw him in the hospital for the second time that week, and she had to express her deep concern for his life.
6. Kiba told him to just get her drunk, so Sai tried that. She had gone through her third bottle of sake before she started crying about Sasuke and his terrible ass-bow and how he was never going to come home, and before he knew it, they were back at her place, making out. (It was hot.) This was the point where he thought he had finally won her over, but once she pulled away and looked at him, she cried and collapsed on her couch.
“What’s wrong?” he asked tentatively, kneeling down and touching her shoulder.
“Y-You’re not Sasuke-kun!” she wailed, burying her face in the crook of her arm.
Sai didn’t know a lot when it came to people, but he knew enough to feel it hurt.
5. “Ah, Ugly. Where are you going?”
Sakura stopped her conversation with Ino to look at him. “Shopping. Why?”
He smiled. “Would you like me to hold your bags for you?” It was something that Lee had suggested-and considering how exuberant he was, then he must’ve been done something right in his life…
Sakura and Ino exchanged a look. “Well, if you insist…”
Since he was in Root, Sai had thought that he was a fairly capable person-but up until now, he had never realized that shopping could be so…exerting.
He went home with aching limbs that night, and not even a kiss on the cheek.
4. While on a mission together with Naruto and Kakashi, they came across a group of nukenin. They were painfully outnumbered, and while Sakura dealt with one of them, Sai saw another one aim a jutsu at her back. Kicking off the shinobi he was currently dealing with, he raced towards her-and while he didn’t have the time to do a replacement jutsu to block the attack, he had enough time to physically place himself between her at her opponent.
The last thing he remembered seeing before he blacked out was her tears.
3. When he woke up on the forest floor, it was dark out. He heard the crackling of a fire more than he felt its warmth, and when he struggled to sit up, he was sore all over.
“Sai! Are you feeling better?” Sakura immediately rushed to his side, grinning in relief.
Feeling a little dizzy, he couldn’t come up with anything suitable to say, and so the next words that tumbled out where the first that came to mind:
“You look a lot prettier when you smile.”
2. The next time he asked her out to dinner, she threw her hands up in the air in exasperation. “What the hell do you want from me?”
He blinked. “Nothing. I would just like for you to be my girlfriend.”
For a long moment, they just stared at each other. Sakura seethed. “Fine. Just stop…stop being so weird!”
For once, he was stunned into speechlessness. “So…does that mean that we can have sex?”
“NO.”
“When can we have sex?”
“Not until I say so!”
“Will it be soon?”
“Not with the way you’re asking me about it!”
1. For their first anniversary, Sai painted something for her. It was a picture of her sitting against a tree with a book in hand with Naruto and Sasuke training in the background-something that happened quite often. It was his first time painting with such bright and warm colors, focusing on the greens and reds more than the blues and browns, so he wasn’t sure how to feel about it.
When Sakura saw the painting, she stared at it for a long time. Then she started crying. Then Sai contemplating giving up on this whole romance thing and just killing himself.
Well, that was until she gave him a bone-crushing hug and murmured very quietly, against his neck, “Thank you.”
He slept over that night.
