Don't you just hate it as well? These people with their sites of all the stuff one should know when writing fanfiction. Where they tell you the do's and don'ts and the 'how to write *good* fanfiction'. They try to give you lessons on it and how to do this and that oh and your fic sucks to hell if you don't ( Read more... )

Hey, this is snapemanor from Tauschtickt - just in case you wonder who the hell I am. ;)

I didn't know that you're writing fanfiction - I just stumbled across your stories by pasting the link in your TT-profile into my browser. I had my accound deactivated for several weeks / months now, but after reading your opinion of "fanfic and fandom tyrants" I nearly fell of my chair laughing. You know... this is one reason why I left this place. I've written fanfiction for nearly seven years (German mostly, I don't consider my English well enough for writing anything longer than one or two pages), I loved drawing and illustrating my works. I worked as an admin and archivist for different fanfic-archives, I was beta-reader and member of a fanfic-award-community, etc. It all seemed to be perfect at first. But in the end it was a big waste of time. The fun that started it all was soon killed by the growing fandom and its self-centered members. Suddenly no author was allowed to publish their works without going through a nasty beta-procedure. Marks were assigned for fanfics(!), some archivists and authors tried to make up rules for perfect writing. If an archivist didn't like a certain author she or he was blackmailed in nearly every forum and was laughed at, never winning any award. After just two years awards were only given to the self-appointed "elite" - no matter if they'd written something really good or just total crap. Not the talent was rewarded, but the popularity. Hence my antipathy against most fandoms and archives nowadays...

I know this is an oooold entry of yours. I hope you don't mind the comment. :)

OMG. *waves* Can't believe you found me. Yes, I know what you mean, but I never wirte for awards, I love writing fanfic and don`t plan to stop any time soon. But I hate elites too. I made anti-elite comm icons, actually which are at this link: http://xchristabelx.livejournal.com/43754.html#cutid1
I write for myself, for the things I'm a fan of and for he people who like my writing. I avoid places with awards and major beta rules, but I do have a beta reader at the moment, just because sometimes I like a second opinion. And anyway, the girl who betas for me is an awesome person. She's not pushy and just makes suggestions and helps. She even noticed some grammar mistakes of which I'd never known they're mistakes until she told me. I'm thankful for that, cause I can be such a perfectionist.
Anyway, and otherwise, I like to create my own places for people to post their stuff. I prefer being a friend-admin instead of just an admin if that makes sense.

Anyway, it took me a while to find this comment, cause i was an old entry and my e-mail notification didn't work. But it's great to see you around here. :)
