Chapter 4 of Or So David Thinks...
The day went swiftly, I… well I just tried to pay attention in class. I wrote down assignments and listened up-I’d missed a small part of the year already, I didn’t need to be left behind anywhere. Pierre had every class with me but one; that was Geometry. He had English then. Pierre walked by me to every class, he complained every time too. I was walking at my normal pace, but he just couldn’t keep up with me. Ugh. He’s gonna get some exercise then. Work those leg muscles, Pie! Okay, back on topic…
I came home, Jeff (guy with the long hair) kept up until we split ways. I breathed a quick sigh of relief, just got home, started on my French, then the phone rang. I growled immediately, then got up and answered politely.
“Hello?”
“Hey, it’s Josh.”
“Hey… umm… just working on French, and a breakthrough over here!”
“What’s that?”
“Pie, Jeff, and Chuck are ‘letting me in’ as I call it.”
“Heh… are you actually going to hang out with them?”
“Well, I was thinking-and hear me out on this one-that, because I think Pierre is gay, I’m gonna wait till he cracks. I’ll stop at nothing for that to happen-and his friends said that they’d stay loyal to him. So I’m hoping…”
“OOO! Keep me up to date on this one! I want to know everything that goes on, but I have to go now… so, have fun with ‘the plan’.”
“Yeah, the ‘simple plan’.”
beep
I sat back, thinking a moment before I started to get back to work on my homework. Then the doorbell rang. I looked up, mumbled a curse or two, then finally got up, looking through the little hole in the door first. I had gotten into that habit from before, and wasn’t about to stop. I swung it open, realizing it was Pierre and Chuck.
“Umm… hello?”
“Hey, just thought we’d drop by. Jeff’s out with his girlfriend tonight, so we thought we’d hang out with you.” Pierre spoke easily. Chuck shrugged and spoke up.
“Maybe he was the one wanting to drop by, but I certainly didn’t…” I rolled my eyes, knowing how this was going to be, then let them in.
“Dude, where’s your parents? Out for the night?” I froze, remembering I had only told Randy, and Josh just kind of… guessed. I wasn’t sure how to phrase this one.
“Ummm…. They’re never home. They’re always gone. Business or whatever.”
“Oh, I see, well… we can just hang around my place, or here if you want. Whatever’s easier.” I nodded, then invited them to sit, motioning to the couch.
“It’s cool, here’s alright. Do you want something to eat or drink?” They shook they’re head, so I just sat in the recliner. I suddenly had a great idea….I think. So… Let my game begin….
Pierre smiled at me, and I dipped the corners of my mouth up into a lazy smile in return. He glanced at Chuck who, in turn cleared his throat.
“Ummm…I saw you skating yesterday, you look pretty good….” Small talk, wasn’t going to happen….maybe.
“Yeah…well, first of all, if I’m going to hang with you, you better listen to half-decent music. So what bands do you like?” I countered flawlessly.
“Uhhh….No Doubt, Good Charlotte, Me-“ He didn’t even get through before I leaped from my chair.
“Yay, you’re my friend for life!” Maybe I can get a little hyper every now and again, but still, he liked the same kinds of things I did. Whoot! Score for David! I just realized the position though, with my arms wrapped around his neck, and his hands settling somewhere about waist/hips area. Violation! I straightened up as soon as possible, then dusted off my shirt, turned straight faced and walked back to my chair. I expertly snuggled myself into the same position as before, staring at them for any reaction. Pierre had been laughing when I had done it, but had a worried look pressing his features. Chuck was the first to speak.
“Uhhh….well, that was uh… interesting…” Pierre nodded in response. I remained silent and still, staring at the same spot, my gaze, un-moving. Pierre’s voice was heard.
“Yeah….David?” When I gave no response he walked closer to my perch.
“David?.... Davey? Are you okay?” He waved a hand in front of my face, I didn’t blink, nothing.
Awww…a nickname….but they’re gonna be SO punk’d!
I remained motionless, and unnerving the both of them. Pierre suddenly gasped and turned to Chuck.
“Now look, you traumatized the poor boy…” Chuck said nervously. Pierre growled suddenly.
“Just call 911. Now. I happen to like Davey. Now get the phone and call, shithead.” So he liked me, huh? Chuck dialed the phone, I saw it with my peripheral vision. Pierre was hovering, then checked my breath, then my heartbeat. Chuck got on the phone with the hospital recipient desk.
“Hello, this is-“
“I’m Chuck Comeau, my, uh, friend is like passed out or something. He’s not responding to anything.”
“Is he breathing? How’s his heart-rate?”
Here, Pierre put his thumbs up and made an okay sound. Chuck relayed the information.
“Where are you located, Sir?”
“Ummm….New Haven Drive, the house number is 37.”
Shit! I was gonna have the ambulance here! Oh shit! Oh shit!
“Okay, Sir, an ambulance will be there within a few minutes, can you move him to a comfortable position?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, once you’ve done that, make sure he can breathe, and see if you can get any response.”
“Okay, I’ll try.”
Sure-fire. The attendant was right, within a few minutes, I heard sirens. By this time I was panicking. I heard Pierre mumble. Chuck hung up, then tried to comfort Pierre. Pierre shrugged it off and grabbed a hold of my hand, by then I was in so much of a panic I blanked, then it dawned on me. The lights went out, I only felt a detached squeeze on my hand, then a slightly familiar voice.
“I love you David, I’m right here, I’m not moving. Ever.”
