Chapter 3 of Or So David Thinks...

I unpacked what was left in my clothing bag, then stretched out on the bed. I had turned the AC on just as it was starting to get humid. My hair clung sticky to the nape of my neck as I laid on my stomach. Josh ran his hand over my back to let me know he was there, then dropped next to me. I tilted my head just enough to find him in the same position, looking at me.

“I’m tired as hell.” I said wearily. He looked straight faced at me, then frowned, furrowing his brow a bit as he did so.

“Hell’s tired? I didn’t think it could ever get that way. Then again. Never knew it existed.” I frowned and pushed him playfully with my elbow. I suddenly got an idea. Skate park! Woohoo!

“Want to go to the skate park? It would be fun.” He grinned lazily, pulling his body up as he shook his head at me.

“I’ll go. On one condition-you walk me home. Well, to my new house. Your old house.” I chuckled and nodded.

“Let’s go! I can’t wait!” He shook his head again and draped an arm over my shoulder as we walked out of the house. I put my skateboard down and he mirrored my movements. We slowly skated there, then looked at the ramps. I nodded in approval, looked at him, then took off.

After about a half-hour of non-stop skating, three guys came into view on their own skateboards. They looked pretty tough, but I didn’t care. Lot’s of guys were ‘buff’ but were really sweethearts. Look at Josh… no, don’t look at him. He’s afraid of these guys. Ahhh….Jeff, Pierre, and Chuck, I got it. They were wearing name tags-I’m smart….yeah…
“Who’s the new boyfriend, Josh?” I sneered and started skating over to where they stood around Josh. I pulled up, then walked towards Josh.

“Why can’t you ask me yourself? Or are you incapable? And, I’m David, for the record.” I draped my arm about his waist, standing firmly on the ground. I wasn’t about to let anything happen to Josh. He wasn’t a boyfriend, anyway. He was a friend. Pure friendship here.

Why do jackasses like this live?! Oh yeah, to disturb my peace.I knew there was something wrong with being happy at all…

“Oh, well, David’s the mouthy little boy.” The one with long hair said. He looked vicious, but I could tell he was following another one of the guys. Which one, though? The tallest brunette hadn’t spoken so far.

“I dunno, Jeff, I kinda like the look of him. He looks tough. But he’s… ahh… he’s gay, nevermind. We just shouldn’t bother. We’ll never convert him anyway.” The shorter brunette commented slowly. I was sort of getting nervous; he kept looking at the way Josh and I were clinging to one another. I eyed the tallest brunette, who looked like he didn’t even want to be there. Finally he spoke, causing me to jump out of my skin. But his voice was smooth. I liked it, the way I liked his chocolate brown eyes. But I knew he hung around the wrong crowd to be gay.

“Guys-let’s skate and forget about them for now. We’ll worry about him tomorrow at school. If he even gets that far.” The others chuckled and backed away, getting on their skateboards and skating away. He followed slowly. I was watching the other two, but he brushed past me, mumbling a word under his breath. Was it possible? Did he just?... No…. he couldn’t have… or shouldn’t have, anyway. It was a unanimous agreement by my thoughts and me: he said ‘Sorry’.

Josh stepped forward again and draped an arm about my shoulders. His voice flowed easily at a whisper into my ear.

“Want to give them a show?” I looked over at him, confused, then saw the sparkle in his eyes and got what he meant. I grinned and faced him completely, then stepped up to him, pressing my body tightly to fit into his like a glove. I glanced up, but laced my fingers with his.

“Have you ever done this before?” I whispered carefully. He just nodded and caught my lips with his. There were no fireworks, no nothing. We weren’t meant for each other, and knew it, but we still enjoyed this one freedom. Slowly, we thread our tongues together, letting them wrestle softly in each other’s mouths, unaware of the taller brunette stopping to gawk at us. The other two guys must have seen, because he suddenly gasped and dropped his skateboard. He fled from the scene. Something must have happened to him, I don’t feel any pity, though. He was a gorgeous guy, but with that, it just pulled the trigger that he was straight. I stepped away from Josh when that happened, seeing the other two glare and look ready to beat us into a bloody pulp. I shrugged, grabbed my board, then walked hand in hand with Josh down the street. We got to where it was safe from sight of the three, now two, guys. We laughed really hard after that. It was hilarious!

That night I thought about it and chuckled. I ate my meal, then slept. I was exhausted. It was too soon when I had to wake up. I looked at the clock, got up, ate toast, finally dressed, then grabbed my bag and headed towards the school I was shown. I nuzzled into my sweatshirt; it was chilly this early in the morning. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder. I moved away, a little bit, then turned all the way around to look at who it had been. Jeff. This was bound to be trouble. He sighed.

“I hate doing this, but I live closest. Pierre wants you to join us-he says that you’re tough, strong, and probably easy to get along with once we know you. Personally: I think you’re a dipshit who needs a reality check against gays. Until you prove otherwise, or make Pierre happy. That means: you better be all he says you are.”

All he says I am, hmmm? I think I could show him something about being all he wants.

I shake my head. This was pathetically stupid. But I was happy that I got invited in the group. Ha! I’d show them.

I walked with Jeff all the way to school, being taught how I was ‘supposed’ to react when around him and especially Pierre. He also said Pierre was different from them, but he was more of ‘the leader’ then anyone else around. He told me they were loyal, and always would be. Making it clear to me I needed to figure out which one was Pierre and see if he was gay or not. I could push my limits with him, partly ‘cause if this ‘Pierre’ was who I thought he was, then yes.

When we arrived he stopped near the two I’d seen before. I eyed the shorter brunette, but seemed more at ease with the other one.

“Hey, Pie, he’s here. I brought him.” I came back down to earth when the taller one answered.

“You make him sound like he’s being kidnapped or something. Stop being so hostile about this whole thing, we all know you two are straight.” Then he directed his speech towards me. “Hey. Sorry for being a jackass Sunday. Well, I’m sorry I didn’t stop them earlier from lighting into you like that. They can be assholes. But that’s off-topic.”

I like this guy. I mean, like like him. Shit! Crush?! No!!! Oh well.

He suddenly brought a hand up to my shoulder and pushed me down, he seemed to be nice enough, but I merely sidestepped, letting the football go right past my ear.

Wow. That was close.

He stood again and rolled his eyes. “You’re calmer than I expected. But you need to talk, personally, you’re scaring me.” I chuckled and shook my head.
“Thought being gay was enough to scare you, at least it seemed that way when you ran off. You know, that could become blackmail in the future. Don’t let this plan of your’s backfire. I do know all.” I made the simple speech, then walked slowly, pushing past his shoulder, just as the bell rang, to get to class. He was gonna have a wild ride.

A really wild ride…
