so sometimes when i see someone's rig, i like to remake it in my head.  during angel guys practice on friday, i saw todd's board and wanted to do it.  and while doing it, i got really fucking confused.  i have no idea what is going on that board.  i mean i 'get' it.  but i'm unsure of it's actual functionality.

the long drawn out reorganization is after the cut.  warning.  it's rambling even for my lack of rambling standards...

alright.  from the picture.  it goes:  hilton volume pedal, boss tu-2, keeley japanese apartment switcher, mxr carbon copy analog delay, ehx memory man with hazarai, digitech digidelay, boss tr-2, ehx micro pog, tc electronics nova reverb.  goes into an engl powerball.  which has an insane footswitch with like 8000 things.

so first, you can see that the board is not 'full'.  it doesn't have to be.  but this allows for some additions of bigger footprint pedals for more tonal variation.

secondly, i've listened to angel eyes as a fan for a while and now as a member and i would have to say todd's role, if it had to be labeled, would be ryhtmn guitarist.  which in my mind means he can be more textural.  double picking, layering etc...  of course it's not by the book by any means.

again, as a new member of the band, i get to see the relationships and now in the songwriting process how it appears to build in my eyes.

for todd, my idea was that his board should have a bunch of tap tempo'd effects so he can link up with the actual rhymn of the groove.  then the others would be for textural movements while still sticking to the tapped tempo.

so to begin here are the pedals laid out in a different way:

delay:
mxr carbon copy analog delay
ehx memory man w/ hazarai
digitech digidelay

reverb:
tc nova reverb

modulation:
boss tr-2
micro pog

misc:
boss tu-2 tuner
keeley switcher

let's start with modulation...
have to ditch the boss tr-2 and go to:
lightfoot labs goatkeeper
empress tap tremolo
cusack tap-a-whril.

all three have tap tempo.  he could then rely heavily on the tap tempo feature to lock the tremolo into the song.  when i get the gk2, i'll probably just offer for him to use the gk1 on his board.

i haven't really seen the use of having both guitarists having the pog(b has the full pog).  so it'd have to be ditched.  basically everything would be ditched.

since this is basically devolved into stream of thought...todd's amp is an engl powerball and rules.  it ahs a series/parallel fx loop.  the tones range from clean to dirty 8000 times over.  so no overdrive/distortion is really needed.  i could see him using some fuzz though to dirty it up but the amp can sort of cover that too.  the biggest coup de tat i could think of is to ditch the powerball(he shouldn't) and get a completely clean amp a la fender.  has to have an effects loop.  then use a couple of OD pedals to push it over into insane gain territory and fuzz to fuzz it up.

alright...here are a couple versions of the board.

ps this is all in the effects loop.

unlimited money board:

sonic research turbo tuner st-200
hilton volume pedal
last gasp labratories 88-super oscillo-fuzz w/ expression pedal
lightfoot labs goatkeeper
cusack tap-a-phase
zvex ring tone
malekko echo 600 w/ expression pedal
empress super delay w/ expression pedal
dr. scientist radical red reverberator

balancing toneage versus what's on hand:

(before the amp)
boss tu-2 in the japanese apartment effects loop(tone sucker extraordinare)
hilton volume pedal

(in the fx loop)
lightfoot labs goatkeeper
ehx micro pog
stereo memory man with hazarai for tap tempo delays
mxr carbon copy analog delay
boss rv-3/5 set to short delay/small room reverb
boss rv-3/5 set to long delay/hall reverb

this took way too long for what was supposed to be a fun little experiment.
