btvsats_love After her third bath, Fred felt guilty. Three baths were two too many, according to her, and she didn’t want Lilah upset with her. The beautiful woman had already rescued her from her cave and had bought her a blue nightgown. How Lilah knew blue was Fred’s favorite color was beyond her but she knew Lilah had to be pretty special to know such a thing.
She was in the middle of scrubbing the tub when the door opened. Fred startled a little and looked up at Lilah with wide eyes and fear. “I was just cleanin’ up my mess. If I’m not doing it right, I’ll do it over,” Fred said as her fingers, red from the bleach she’d been using, fluttered around.
Lilah took Fred’s elbow to help her up. “You don’t have to clean. I have someone who does it,” she said.
“If I’m not supposed to clean the bathroom, then what am I supposed to clean?” Fred curiously asked.
“Nothing. You aren’t here to be my slave, Fred. Don’t you remember what we talked about on the way here?”
Fred shook her head before cupping her hands over her ears and staring at Lilah. “I don’t remember. Sometimes it all gets jumbled up inside my brain and it’s hard to remember what’s real and what’s not,” she quickly said, her accent thick with fear.
“I brought you back because my firm found out what’d happened to you. We’re going to take care of you, Fred,” Lilah said as she took the other woman’s hand and led her to the guest bedroom.
Fred allowed Lilah to pull her to the bedroom. She watched as the other woman pulled down the blankets, and when Lilah motioned toward the bed, Fred quietly slipped under the covers. “I can’t remember the last time I slept in a bed. Hope I sleep alright and I don’t keep y’all up,” she said as she pulled the blanket up to her chin.
“Get all the rest you need, Fred. Once you feel up to it, we’ll go to the firm and I’ll show you where you’re going to work,” Lilah commented.
“Oh! I don’t know anything about working at a law firm.” The thought of working at the firm clearly upset Fred so Lilah reached down and softly touched her cheek.
“Don’t worry. I’ll teach you everything you’ll need to know. By the time I’m finished with you, no one will ever hurt you again,” she whispered.
Fred leaned into Lilah’s touch and smiled. “You saved me,” she tiredly whispered as her eyes grew heavy and started to close.
“That’s right,” Lilah said. “Now, get some sleep.”
Fred nodded and allowed her eyes to finally close. She was safe for the moment. And as she fell asleep, she knew she’d do anything Lilah, and her firm, asked her to do. After all, they were the ones who’d saved her and it was only right for her to pay them back.
