General
Canon Source: Death Note.
Canon Format: Manga.
Character's Name: Mello [Mihael Keehl]
Character's Age: 19.
What form will your character's NV take?
Because nothing screams ‘I’m fucking awesome’ like a phone made out of real gold and a real leather carrying case to carry that mofo in. Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Mello’s pretty much your average human guy, that is if one doesn’t count his genius, tight leather clothes, addiction to chocolate, and massive inferiority complex as abnormal. Mello may be rash, but it’s his quick thinking and innovative ability to problem solve that has brought him to the top so far in his game against Near. Aside from that, he’s got nothing else going for him.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
Mello’s dormant ability will be that as long as something has the possibility of being survivable/doable/obtainable and the chances aren’t zero to none, he can pull it off. As he levels it up/develops it, the chances he can take will be able to become slimmer and slimmer. That’s to say, say if there’s a 20% chance that if he jumps out of a window he’ll be able to NOT break his legs. If he was at that level, he could pull it off.
The drawback to all of this however?
Mello has to be completely confident in his ability to survive whatever it is and completely believe he can pull it off. If any doubt enters his mind or if he loses his concentration the chances of failure skyrocket and well…he could end up with a pair of busted knees ahaha |D;
Weapons:
All Mello would have on him at the time he’s being pulled from would be his precious, precious gun, a useless bomb trigger and a funky gas mask.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Want a recipe for disaster? Take two scoops of genius, half a pound of leather, mixed with a fiery personality and a pinch of unpredictability. Oh, and add chocolate. Fill the bowl to the brim with the stuff. Mix well, bake at a high temperature for a good few minutes, and last but not least, when he comes out of the oven kicking and screaming, don’t forget to bestow a highly ironic nickname upon him. So, what’s the end result? A shoddy, quick tempered blond who you really don’t want to piss off.
Meet Mello. A genius, most likely clinically insane, and a boy who’s passion and addiction for chocolate only rivals the burning desire he has to make his lifelong rival Near crumble and fall.
For the majority of his childhood Mello was raised in Wammy’s house, an orphanage for highly intelligent kids who all seemed to suffer from some sort of neurotic quirk. They were all brought there for one reason and one reason only - to become successors of L - the world’s greatest detective. Our darling Mello was second in line, only bested by Near, the quiet, pale albino who was too old (at least in Mello’s opinion) to still be playing with train sets. And no matter what Mello did, no matter what obscenities he yelled or how many of the boy’s toys he broke, Near still stared back at him with blank, empty eyes, and still managed to come out on top. Mello had always dreamed big, dreamed of someday beating Near and taking the title of L all for himself. But that dream flat lined when L wound up dead. L had lost to Kira, a mass murderer. The unbeatable L had been defeated. He couldn’t believe it. What was even worse perhaps was that he hadn’t chosen a successor. Offended and disgusted at the notion of even cooperating with Near, Mello split, leaving the orphanage at 14 (Soon to be 15) letting the title of L fall into Near’s tiny, pathetic hands.
He’d do things his own way. It was his life after all.
Besides, a new game was already starting, and Mello was certain that this time he would be first to the finish line.
There are certain things someone has to be willing to do, certain sacrifices they have to be ready to make to get to the top - but those particular deeds will never be mentioned. There’s no need to recall that part of his past - it’s the present that matters to Mello. The not so distant future, where he’s heralded as the one who brought Kira down, gorging himself on chocolate, all the while Near’s forced to mop the floor under his feet.
But right now it’s the present he has to focus on. Having wormed his way into the mafia, gaining a high rank and working close to the boss no less, Mello managed to get his leather clad fingertips on the Death Note before Near did. However, his victory didn’t last for long and soon enough the mafia’s hideout was raided. Cornered and faced with either the choice to surrender or be killed, Mello opted for a third option. The building’s inner workings were rigged with various explosives and all it took was the press of a remote trigger to set them off. If he was going to die it’d be by his own hand. Without so much of a second thought, he pressed the button, getting ready to escape the mess of oncoming disaster or die trying.

Point in Canon: Just as Mello pushes the button on the remote control device to set off various explosions embedded within the Mafia headquarters.
Character Personality:
Mello has never truly been entirely there, the boy being somewhat of a loose cannon when it comes to his feelings and reactions. He possesses an obsessive, addictive, and competitive personality, which is probably why it's so hard for him to let live and let go. His judgment compared to that of his emotionless rival is usually flawed by his inability to control his emotions, and despite his best efforts, it’s not surprising for him to become aggravated easily. However, despite being permanently on edge in the face of danger or conflict, Mello’s not only comfortable, but perhaps is almost giddy to a certain degree. Add Near to the mix however, and this canon’s sure to fire off.
His biggest weakness perhaps is Near, the petite pale boy from his past who always seemed to outdo him, in anything and everything, no matter how hard he tried. Near’s the thorn in his side that he’s always trying so desperately to remove and throw away, but because of his obsessive personality Mello’s figuratively stuck on Near. He wants to beat him, he wants to show him that he’s the superior one - and that’s precisely why Near will be his downfall.
It wouldn’t be a far off assumption to think that Mello’s just a tad, if not entirely insane. Having the balls to manipulate a whole mafia organization, and then blasting a building to bits (with himself still inside) he’s always been one to put on a good show and make a snazzy statement. The saying ‘If you can’t beat them, join them’ is an entirely foreign notion to him. There’s no way he’ll be backing down or falling behind in the race against Near.
There’ll be only one victor, and Mello’s certain - no positive, that it’ll be him who’s waving Kira’s bloody head in front of Near’s smug blank face.
And hey, if he stains those white pyjamas his rival loves to wear so much in the process?
Bonus points for him.
