And stuff

Tell me that I do not need DVD copies of Nochnoy Dozor and its sequels. (The second one has been released on DVD, the third has not been released at all, even in Russian theaters.) Right? At least not until they're -all- available?

So, last Sunday evening, Adam shared the joy that is Pikmin! It's colorful and cheerful and cute and silly, which is exactly what I need in a video game. And it keeps reminding me which buttons do what (actually too much so, even for me), and I don't have to jump. In fact, I don't even have the -ability- to jump. (And did I mention that the controls are simple?) I'm a little guy leading a bunch of radish minions through flowers and having them do battles with bugs and stuff until they find the parts to fix my spaceship. It's too cute for words, except when I accidentally drown all my minions.

Also on Sunday, I got a hugeass lampshade for the phoenix lamp: for some reason, the lamp is much larger in my mind than it is in reality. It's tacky enough at its tiny size -- it would be pretty bad if it were as big as I keep thinking. But I got the shade for less than half price, and I feel all weird now about the idea of returning it or doing anything other than keeping it, even though I don't (at the moment) have a lamp that would even sortof go with it. (So, Jenna, when you discovered your mistake, you measured the lamp to prepare for the next time you enncounter a Potentially Acceptable Lampshade, right? No, of course not. That would've been too sensible.) I should replace the ugly, ugly lamp sitting on top of my desk: Granny insisted I needed another lamp when I moved, so she gave it to me. She expected I'd put it on a nightstand, but it's not a little nightstand light in the first place: it's a two-and-a-half-foot-tall affair with a three-way bulb. So I could get a new base, and put this new red shade on it, and be happy. Maybe. I should measure (and write down the measurements of) both the new shade and the little phoenix lamp base. When I get an actual shade for it, I'll take a picture of the thing so you can all laugh at how godawful ugly (yet charming!) it is.

I also need to be bothered to go to some antiques stores some weekend, and actually shop for a dresser. I really, really love this one, which I found in the Hardwood Artisans store. (And if you love amazingly beautiful, well-built furniture, the kind your kids will fight over when you die, go and touch things in their store and open and close the drawers on anything you see. I tend to trail my hands over stuff in nice furniture stores, because I just like touching it, but the stuff in their store actually makes me shiver a little.) But it's simply not reasonable to buy it, even if I could afford it: I don't like the way the style turns out for the bedframe and other stuff, and having one piece like that without the rest of the set would be very strange. And I'd have a heart attack the first time it got knicked or watermarked or whatever. Which will inevitably happen. So, a well-built but pre-damaged antique would be perfect, if I can find one the size I want. Hence the need to actually get myself going on that search.

You know what it is that I really like about winter, besides the lack of bugs? The low humidity. Well, that and that people start wearing real colors again, not these summer colors...
