a'ight, kids. It's that time again. Renfest runs from yesterday to October 22.
Adam and I went yesterday, and didn't die of heat exhaustion, and I hadn't made new garb. I re-dyed my skirt black on Friday evening, because of an Unfortunate Incident in which I sortof bleached patches of it and it looked awful, so now it's a nice dark black again, but I made nothing new. I wasn't awake sewing the night before faire! {Everyone who just mock-fainted can now make sarcastic comments about how I've been replaced by an alien who hadn't studied me long enough. Go on, I dare you.}
I'm going back next Saturday (September 2): This is the day Nikki was/is organizing a trip, and is thus the time the Young Thesbians/ex-Troupies crowd will be going. ("Ex?? Once a Troupie, forever a Troupie!" Yeah, well, I'm feeling old and bitter today. Or I'm just in denial of the fact that I'm going to go into the traditional frantic-garbmaking mode very shortly.*) Craziness will abound, I'm sure, and this may be the definitive weekend for the digital camera scavenger hunt. Additional attendees are almost certainly welcome to join our merry band -- contact me about carpooly nonsense. Also, I will be having cider, because I'll be allowed to drink again by then.
I'm also definitely going September 30 or 31: this is when Mediaeval Baebes are going to be there. I am informed that this is also the weekend of Doug and Katie's wedding, which many of you will be attending, but for anyone who's not going to that, I'd be happy to take you to faire with me!
I'm sure I can also be convinced to go some other random weekend(s), so if you're looking for fairemates... For anyone too lazy to check the site, I present the following information: Pirate weekend is Sept 23-24. Celtic weekend is Oct 7-8. (They do not appear to be having a specific Scottish Weekend this year.)
* As of now, the only thing I'm doing is altering my brother's shirt and maybe a new skirt for me. I keep contemplating a
Moresca-style bodice, because I've lusted after them for Far Too Long to continue not having one. It's not necessary by any means, but "necessary" is such a flexible word... I'm not spending $150 on one, though, so it's really a question of the limit of my patience with re-creating the style in a way that fits me perfectly. (If I get some nice, stiff twill for prototyping...) I suspect that the boning and support down past my waist may actually be more comfortable than the ends-above-the-waist style. (Hmm...) Actually, it'd be nice to figure out a pouch style I liked and actually create one. I despise the ones I see at faire, but don't know where to get the ones I've seen and liked. {sadness!}
TK, get the kilt to me once it's been cleaned, if you want me to stitch the pleats permanently.
Elf, figure out what you want. You probably can't have it by next weekend, but if I were bribed with lemon cake and if I actually come home on weeknights to work on stuff...
Anyone else to whom I've made garb-related offers, you have to remind me what I said I'd do for you.
