Ah, progress...

So, to get back into the habit of keeping this stupid thing updated, I'm gonna start keeping progress notes here. x3 For anybody wondering how DI's facelift is going. =3

Details under the cut, along with a link to chapter one (and a spiffy pic of the chapter cover! x3)

Started work on DI Tuesday after my journal entry, and hooo boy it was a shock to see the difference in my writing style. I started DI when I was sixteen, so needless to say, there's been a hell of a lot of growth from when I began it. >>; The whole first chapter not only ranted on and on, but it was OOC! Mind you, when I first wrote it, I didn't quite have Mischa's personality pegged yet, nor his narrator's voice. That got progressively better as I went, if I'm right. But man that first chapter. I was literally rewriting every paragraph, chopping out the useless information and trying to salvage what was important. Though as with all first chapters, it still goes on and on in some places.

But, I succeeded in several things. First, Mischa doesn't insult Europa's intelligence HALF as much as in the original copy. @_@ Dear Jesus, I guess at the time I wasn't really thinking about it, but he sounded like a bastard, and I made Cal out to be some abusive psychopath. Mind you, he's a nutjob and yeah he's pushy, but not quite so much as I was indicating. So I definitely made it a point to tone down the animosity between Cal and Europa. >> And of course now Mischa sounds like Mischa. XD That, the phrasing and less...er...worship of Adrian on his appearance. While I was aiming for them to feel the fabled 'instant-connection'...it now doesn't sound so much like they wanna throw each other down and go to town on the classroom floor. XD God, hormonal teenager me. *pats her past-self's head*

Speaking of class, since I now attend a college, I know how it works and I am in the process of fixing the very shitty representation I managed of their university. ^^; I was sixteen, what did I know? I had it written a lot like a high school. >3> But it's better now. Mischa is just taking Theology five days a week. You can do that with some specialized classes. *sighs* While it's a stretch, it's not as ridiculous as the high school setup I was peddling originally.

Rereading this has reminded me of several things. First, I love Mischa, and I love Adrian's initial appearance, the hateful, mysterious misanthrope personality is actually fun to write. (I'm editing chapter two now, chapter one is already up on y!gallery.)

Most of all, it's made me worry that so many people have read this story in such a bad state. XD I've been told it gets better as it goes on, and I'm noticing hints of that. I'm not doing half as much editing to Adrian's chapter as I did to Mischa's, probably because I had Adrian's personality all outlined in my head when I started it. (You know, DI fans, Adrian was the first character I created for DI. o= Free insider facts~) But having a reader tell me that her theology teacher had read it and was wondering about my inspiration made me wanna sink into the ground. XD I'm probably being too critical of my work, but hey...

So, PROGRESS! X3 After two or so years of doing nothing. >3> Though I'm still in school and working off and on, I'll hopefully keep this up. The only reason chapter two isn't finished yet is because I had a test to study for, and my mother contracted the flu, so now we're all getting sick. xD *holds up her coffee* Fight the power! D<

I'll start linking to chapters on y!gallery for those who are interested. (y!chapters get to have their own special covers, too! x3 Whee!) For now, all I have is chapter one.

Stay tuned, y'all. x3
