So Christine finally convinced me that I needed to get new shoes last night. I hate buying shoes, because I can never find anything that fits. I have wide feet, lemmee tell you, it's aggravating, I can never find anything that really fits right, and I usually wind up getting something that may be a little larger than I need in order to facilitate the flippers that I have permanently attached to my ankles.
Last night was a little different. I found a pair of Doc Martens slip on shoes, that I did end up getting a half size too big for me, but at the same time, they're so comfortable, I didn't really care, and I found a pair of Sketchers Shape-Up XTs for much much less than their regular way out of my budget price. Score!
So I took them to the gym to try them out. First thing's first, there's a little bit of a learning curve to walking in these (I kinda thought I had the whole walking thing mastered, I guess not.) The soles of the shoes are rounded off, so it's like walking on a cross between a swiss ball and platform shoes. The first thing I noticed, based on my center of gravity, it did improve my posture, because in order to slouch or hunch, it would push me forward, and since the shoes are rounded, I would have fallen flat on my face. Secondly, they absorb impact beautifully. I hate running, mostly because I'm 230 pounds, and have knees that quite audibly grind as I walk up the stairs. I have some badly damaged cartilage that really needs to be removed. Until I can afford to do something like that though, I just deal as best as I can. Thankfully, these heavily padded shoes are built like shock absorbers. I was actually able to run without feeling like my knees were going to explode and send bone fragments everywhere.
I checked my weight tonight:230
I'm slowly building momentum, but I'm happy I've dropped the five pounds.
