I was just catching up with things on the BBC news website. And some cretinous 18 year old was whinging about the "effort" it takes to recycle. No, she wasn't having to walk 7 miles to a recycling bank carrying the collected recycling of 74 people. She is expected to separate her rubbish. Her exact views on the matter were:
"It's annoying big time putting rubbish in different bins. Quite a few of my mates can't be bothered.
"They would rather bung it in one bin. I know it helps the environment but it's time consuming."
They have all made The List. Cull cull cull. Cull the stupid. I think it is the only reasonable thing to do.
I genuinely cannot understand how someone can think that is an acceptable standpoint. "It involves a little bit of effort, so I am against it, even though it helps mitigate the horrendous destruction humanity has visited on the planet". Has she missed the memo about the destruction of the whole world because humans are crap? Rah. Stabbitty kill.
Yes, sorting your rubbish might take a little extra time. Get over it. Or I will chop you into little pieces and compost you as an example to others. Rah.
My brother and I recycle everything we can. I am trying to get back into composting kitchen waste, but need to work out a plan. We really only need to put our wheelie bin out about once a month in terms of it actually being full - it goes out more often just so we've not got things getting really seriously manky cos they're in there for so long. When we were tinies we used to go to the recycling centre in Leegate with papers/glass/tins. Much joy was to be had over the wonderful crashing sound bottles made when put into the bottle bank. Only the other day I emailed Lewisham Council to ask them why they have no provision for Tetra-Pak recycling. (I am waiting to hear back from them.) Old clothes go to charity shops/in the textle recycling bank.
Rah. I hate living in such a wasteful, lazy, society.
