Au revoir Alexander McQueen

Feb 12, 2010 23:46

Such an upsetting news: Alexander McQueen was found dead at his home on 11th Feb, Thursday night, presumably suicide.
Some reports indicated that he has been depressed ever since his mentor, Isabella Blow also killed herself in 2007. Just after his mother died a week ago, precisely on 2nd Feb, her youngest son follows. This is a tragedy for the mode world, a gifted designer with tremendous body of work that consisted of more than a decade had left too soon.

I remember as a fashion student, all of us are awed and inspired by his works. We often talked and discussed about his works, used them as our influence and case studies. We all aspire to be like him, to be as talented and increduously gifted as he was. But no one can be like him, for he is a true genius and devout designer, tailor, and visionary. So long Mr. McQueen, hope you had your peace now in the outerworld.

His last runway show was Spring/Summer 2010, a beastly collection of printed dresses and bodysuits with touches of his Saville Row tailoring skills. Based loosely on Darwin's Origin of the Species, he envisioned reptille-like pattern and sea creatures look for his collection. You can imagine all the models as beautiful land and sea creatures, roaming around with his clothes as their own skin. It's cutting edge and yet very modern as he combines technology for the printing, for it would be impossible to get those images without the help of computer program to create those beauiful colour combination. A show worthy for the last one, an end chapter for his works.
