What I Learned On My Summer Vacation

Jul 23, 2010 09:49

  1. When margaritas are ladled from an earthenware pot and handed to you as you are checking into the hotel, it bodes well for the rest of the trip.
  2. Typing skills go dramatically downhill when you have not sat at a computer for a week.
  3. The free margaritas given to us as we checked in were the best margaritas ever.
  4. When the beach bar (and swimming pool bars) have a "happy hour" that spans from 10am to 7pm, your vacation really has no option but to be awesome.
  5. Sunscreen. Early and often.
  6. No, really. You CAN sunburn in the shade.
  7. White vinegar applied in liberal amounts is THE miracle cure for sunburns, and costs 16 pesos.
  8. When you buy tamales from a beach vendor who sells them to you from a styrofoam insulated box, they are the BEST FUCKING TAMALES ON EARTH and every other tamale will be a disappointment.
  9. Seriously, guys, these tamales could bring about world peace.
  10. I will never be able to eat tortilla soup here in the US again, not after having experienced it in Mexico.
  11. I apparently only have to set foot on a boat in order to Summon: Nausea.
  12. I will never go on a vacation without these lovely, lovely ginger candies to ward off motion sickness.
  13. Brewing a hell of a lot of ginger tea before the boat ride = EXCELLENT FORESIGHT.
  14. Coca Cola, when made with sugar instead of corn syrup, is made of win.
  15. Getting the dessert menu delivered to your room while you play a GURPS adaptation of Harry Potter is possibly the most awesome thing one can do.
  16. Never bring a gun to a stick fight.
  17. Against all odds, I apparently enjoy Cuban cigars and sipping tequila. Don't tell 16-year-old me.
  18. When I actually learn to swim, swimming in the ocean will be awesome.
  19. There are worse things in the world when the bar messes up your lime daiquiri by adding a shot more rum than you expected.
  20. Audiobooks + Lounging on the beach = Win.
  21. Sushi in Mexico is more delectable than it sounds. Even more so when the sushi bar is in a pool.
  22. I could definitely stand to do more of this "vacation" thing again.

  23. So that's what I've been up to. What did I miss, Internet?
