Cuz I believe I've
promised one. And plus, it's good supplementary material to help show where I'm coming from while writing The Good Ones.
You see, before What Lies Beneath, there was Gravity. And before Holiday said Circe was pretty, I kinda shipped her with a certain English-accented girlfriend for about a week.
Remember her? :D This is Doctor Rhodes, the British woman from Gravity.
Minor character, first to get offed by Zag, even. She barely lasts five and half minutes into the episode, and that's including the title opening time. And y'know, of course I didn't really care about her at first and just wanted to see Rex show up already.
But the more I thought about her, and about her and Holiday, the more I liked her and the couple.
Bouvier even tries to move in on Holi's bitch.
Bouvier: 8D
Rhodes: Ew.
And here's Holiday telling him to knock it off cuz that shit don't slide with her.
Well, fine, what she really says is "Hold off on the high-fives", but the PICTURES SPEAK THE TRUTH !
You can't blame Boubou for trying, though. Rhodes is kind of adorbs. A thing I like about the supporting characters in GRex is how distinct their personalities are, even if they're minor. (Which does even more to piss me off how much they're doing fuck-all with Circe's characterization. UGH.)
For Gravity, we get Bouvier the Self-Assured, Volkov the Sardonic, and I noticed two things about Rhodes. The first is that she's slightly klutzy.
This is her trying to keep balance looking completely ridic:
And, okay, maybe it's just cuz the space station's turned into something akin of a rodeo bull, but still! Look, here's Holiday and Rhodes running through.
Notice how Holiday manages to keep balance. Meanwhile, Rhodes...
LOL ;;;.
I guess one could argue that maybe the ship's rocking just happened to kick in at that time again. But in my fanon, Rhodes is just a klutz like that. ^^
And yet, she manages to be very much a go-girl. How perfect for Holiday to cart around and care for? GD, I can imagine them in a cozy apartment, with Rhodes accidentally breaking the dishes and Holiday unintentionally ruining the food XDXD. They belong together!!!
Working together to stop the evil computer program~.
And also, when Holiday tries to hitch Bouvier into going with her to shut down the space station's electricity, he's kind of in shock. And guess who immediately volunteers? And look at the expression on Holiday's face.
Rhodes: Doctor Holiday, I'll come.
Holiday: But it's dangerous and I love you. ):
She goes anyway~. Cuz that's what girlfriends are for~~.
But it does turn out to be dangerous. Bye, Rhodes. ;_;
Grey DeLisle is so good at voice acting screams ;;;. To be expected of the VA of CrAzula lololol.
Speaking of Grey DeLisle-- AGAIN, look at the look on HOLI'S FACE !
She's looks utterly freaking DEVASTATED. There is no way in hell it's just me.
She has shadows on her face and everything! And she stays like that for a good few seconds, too! In fact, the only thing that shook her out of it was Six contacting her.
Okay. So. This is Holiday, and this is during a crisis; she knows there's a time and place for things, and she knows that every second counts in this type of situation, and this is her sitting and grieving despite it all! It can't be too farfetched to believe that Rhodes actually meant something special to her. No joke, Holi looks like she's about to reach for her ipod to play this song:
And also--! When Six rung in near the end of the ep, he says, "You'll be happy to know we're in contact with Rhodes." O:!! Perhaps he knew about the relationship, too? And, perhaps it made him jealous, even. Since, Holiday does tell him it's good to hear his voice, and he pulled his stone-face on her. Good news is Rhodes lived. As for Bouvier…. XD;;; Poor dude. I actually liked him. His cockiness reminded me of Rex. Plus, it was frankly kind of horrifying to see him float helplessly away.

Anyway, I'm just about finished sharing my delusions. All in all, a cute couple. :3 I'm not losing my shit over it like I do with other couples (I don't even have to say which one, do I? XD), but if I wrote one of those romance fics-- you know the ones-- the ones where there are like three couples established and all the relationships are healthy and happy-- I'd see if I could stick some Rholiday in it. …And that is how slogans are made.
So, everyone have a nice day, and remember-- stick some Rholiday in it!
