Sara, being in a particularly bad mood today, was not amused by the pushy older kids, who had enlisted her to answer the portrait knock.

"Hello," she barely looked at him, letting him inside.

Reina was knee deep in her notes, across the common room.

"Hi," Derrick said, trying to be friendly, but at the same time, he just wanted to get this over with.

Derrick spotted Reina and walked over to her, barely making a sound. "Rei!" he whispered giddily.

Reina looked up, glancing around.

There was Sara with... "Derrick!" she whispered back, getting a couple of stares. She blushed a tiny bit, getting up to give him his classic hug.

Derrick grinned, and some of his fears began to melt away. "I kind of had something to ask you," he said, after their hug was over.

Reina beamed, looking up at him. "Sure! What's on your mind?"

"Well, uh, I was wondering...would you go to the Ball with me?" he asked tentatively.

Rei looked at him for a second, processing what he had said. "Like a date?" she blurted out, covering her mouth quickly afterwards.

Derrick's cheeks turned red. "Um, yeah," he said, "That is...if you want it to be?"

She blushed deeper. "Um, do you want it to be?" Reina played with her hands a little bit.

Derrick looked down at his hands, too. "Well, er, yeah...." he said quietly.

Reina beamed. She really wanted to kiss him right now, but something inside of her told her not to.

Actually, she was kind of thinking about Riah, and how he might view this. She certainly didn't want to be with two guys... it would get messy.

"I do too," she nodded, "Let's just take everything really slowly, okay?" Reina quickly added, "You just broke up with Gwenn."

She sucked her lips in, biting on them... Maybe she shouldn't have just said that.

Derrick hadn't even thought of Gwenn the entire time. What Reina also didn't know was how civil their breakup really was.

Instead of explaining all this, however, Derrick just nodded solemnly and smiled at her. "Don't worry about it. We will."

Reina thought it over for about two seconds, and then nodded. "Okay then, I guess we're good."

I've got an idea for the train ride that I want to run by you and Chrissy... :D

Derrick nodded again. "Okay. Good."
