So it turns out you can fashion a reasonable hide-out in the basement, as long as you are willing to make your own fun. Which is probably the best explanation for the signs up on the walls, saying things like "STAY OUT", "NO PARENTS ALLOWED", and "THERE ARE RATS DOWN HERE EW", with little seahorses doodled all around the letters ( Read more... )

Buffy was trying desperately to keep her mom from seeing the stranger parts of fandom, and had therefor taken Joyce on a tour on her own. "...And this is another part of the basement!"

"Okay," Buffy agreed. She pulled at her mom. "This is my mom -" she turned to mouth: 'behave!' at Jaye and Alec - "Mom, this is Jaye and Alec. Alec's in the cheerleading squad!"

Seeing the candy safe, Alec beams at Joyce. "Hi, Buffy's mom! I wasn't the one who picked out the shorts on the uniforms - that was all her."
