Title: Wizard Of Oz In Reverse (Chapter 5)
Author: me
Rating: PG-13 (some swearing…I just naturally swear)
Summary: Patrick hated his life, to put it quite simply. Not in the sense that he was completely miserable or anything but he just wasn’t satisfied with his small town existence anymore. Little did he know his life was about to change and a great adventure would be what brought him to happiness and maybe even love in a strange place were magic is real and so is the danger.
Disclaimer: I don’t own anyone sadly.

Chapter V
Patrick, Hemmy and Joe continued to walk for a few hours before deciding they should stop and rest for a while. They had been talking randomly for a while and Patrick actually liked Joe a lot, he was funny and smart despite his appearance.
“So what are you going to ask the wizard for?” Patrick asked sitting on the rock at the side of the road . Hemmingway decided he needed more attention and jumped into his lap. Patrick scratched behind his ears gently, waiting for Joe‘s response. Joe sighed.
“You‘re gonna think it’s stupid” Joe said. Patrick shook his head.
“Why would I think that? Just tell me” he said.
“Fine” he said sighing again and pausing momentarily.
“I want a brain” he said. Patrick raised an eyebrow.
“But don’t you already have one?” he said confused. Joe glared before remembering Patrick was clueless and speaking.
“Technically I don’t and I don’t really know how it works but scarecrows are just different or something I guess, I want to be allowed to go to school but it‘s illegal so I can’t, not until I talk to the wizard at least” he explained. Patrick nodded.
“That sucks man, I’m sure the wizard will do something about it” he said Joe smiled and nodded hopefully. They sat for a while longer before deciding to continue on their way. The landscape was ever-changing, the scenery different around every bend and curve in the road as they walked. Soon they entered a thick forest the only lighting coming from the distant sunset as the evergreen shadows stretched out around them. Patrick picked Hemmy up off the ground opting to carry him in fear of the small dog’s safety. He was worried that it was getting dark and they could get lost if they continued through the night. Joe argued that he wanted to keep going so they would be at the city by the next day but Patrick reasoned with him and they both decided that they needed to find a place to stop for the night. As luck was smiling upon them they came into a small clearing.
“I’m gonna go explore for a bit, I’ll be back soon” Joe said. Patrick nodded yawning, he wasn’t used to walking so far and his legs were already aching. He opened the duffel bag where Glen had packed his things and took out the small sleeping bag inside setting it down on the ground, Joe would have to sleep on the ground but Patrick was too exhausted to care at the moment.
Patrick was about to just settle down on the ground when he heard Joe call his name from the place in the woods he was exploring. Patrick groaned but went to Joe, fearing he may be hurt or something. When he came upon him he saw the last thing he had ever expected. Joe was standing in a small clearing beside a man. A man that shone bright silver and appeared to be made out of metal. Patrick stared mouth agape trying to think of anything he could say. He took in the man’s tall metal frame looking him over and to his embarrassment made note that the man’s handsome features were attractive. Or they would be if he wasn’t a robot or something. Joe knocked on the man’s chest and it made a clanging noise like a bell.
“Who-What is he?” Patrick asked hoping Joe with his knowledge of Oz would be able to explain.
“He‘s the tin man” Joe said his eyes staring at the metal man before him, he seemed to be rusted to the ground eyelids shut and hands together holding a woodcutter’s axe.
“What‘s a tin man?” Patrick question.
“It’s a long story, he used to be human but Gabe‘s mother turned him into this metal thing and now I think he must be dead or something because he doesn’t look like he’s moving anytime soon” he said. Patrick continue to gaze at the silver statue before them when they heard a noise, like a mumble.
“Did you say something?” he asked. Joe shook his head and shrugged when Patrick asked if he’d heard anything. Patrick heard it again this time clearer and coming from close by. He looked around behind them but there was no one to be found.
“I heard it too that time” Joe said looking puzzled. There was one last noise and then Patrick came to a realization, could swear that it was coming from the tin man’s closed lips.
“Did you say something?” he asked confused. There was a noise again but Patrick couldn’t understand it took more mumbling and guessing before Joe finally realized what he was saying.
“He wants an oil can dumbass” Joe said.
“Oh, that does makes more sense than olive oil…” Patrick said embarrassed before looking around the small clearing and spotting a tool shed a bit deeper into the woods. Patrick ran to it opening the door and finding the oil can before running back to Joe and the man. After oiling the man’s joints they both waited eagerly for his reaction. He moved slightly bending his arms to loosen the joints before doing the same with his legs then he took the oil can from Patrick and oiled his mouth opening it as if testing. He looked a bit dazed and confused. The first sound that came out of his mouth was a hoarse cough before he spoke.
“Fuck” was the only clear word to pass his lips before he fell over passing out.
