SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
Be warned, this post is mainly a ramble and a poor attempt to sum up my thought's while watching this week's episode of SPN. Dear Lord, I didn't think it was humanly possible to love this show even more, but the powers that be proved me wrong once again. Kripke, I freakin' worship you!!!
First of all, uh Sam...whatcha doing? Looking kinda shady, sneaking out of the motel room while your brother's sleeping, oh this doesn't bode well. NO! GODAMMIT SAM!!!! Sneaking away to God-knows-where in the middle of the night with RUBY??!?! Are you freakin' kidding me?! *headsmack* Little did I know that this would be the last we saw of Sam for the entire episode, but surprisingly, I didn't even think of him while watching the rest of it. That sounds awful but I was so enthralled with everything else that was going on, I didn't even miss him (Dean forgive me for saying so). I will say this though, I am SO worried about him right now. He's obviously well on his way down a path of darkness and it scares the crap out of me because it looks like it'll lead to a brother vs. brother showdown later on in this season, and that'll just END me.
Aaw, Dean's having Hell-nightmares *pets his head* I'm still interesting in seeing how he deals with those, and if/when he tells the others. HEE, CASTIEL!!!! ♥ He showed up right at the beginning this time, YAY! I wonder if he really had been watching Dean sleep :-P Interesting that he made a sly comment about Dean's dreams, but then it shouldn't really surprise me that he knows. God, omnipresent and all-knowing, and all that jazz, I'm sure he keeps his Angels in the loop. "You have to stop it" - that sounded really ominous, and Misha said that line so perfectly. He's awesome.
Did anyone else notice how much lighter and softly-coloured the past was? That was random, but I liked it, especially since the "present", and the show as we know it, is so gritty and dark. Also random, but I love that Dean carries his dad's journal around in his jacket pocket. I know it's probably more for efficiency and practicality more than anything else, but in a silly way I like to think it makes him feel closer to John. I'm a total sap, I know. And speaking of, OMFG YOUNG!JOHN!!! Oh, I heart him so much! First off, they picked an awesome actor to play him, because he really looked like a younger version of JDM, and just some of the way he said his lines really reminded me of JDM's portrayal of Papa Winchester. I LOVE the way both Dean and John turned around at the sound of their name, and the look on Dean's face and the way he said "Dad?" was SO bittersweet. He was so thrown *hugs him* To be honest, when Dean was following John and turned the corner, I actually expected John to be standing there, all bad-ass and like "who the hell are you and why are you following me?", so I was surprised when I saw Castiel. Though I'm not complaining! Two appearances in one episode already? Yes! Any scenes we get with him are most welcome :-D Those two still know how to rock their scenes, I loved Castiel being so intensely calm and dead-on, in comparison with Dean who looked like he was near to freaking out. His "oh come on, what're you, allergic to straight answers, you son-of-a-bitch?!" was hilarious.
Ok, lol at the VW camper van John was initially going to buy! He must've really loved Mary if she convinced him to get that for her :-P I LOVED Dean convincing him to get the Impala, and the whole thing about how it'd still be badass in 40 years. Hell yeah! Also, the "you know a little something about cars?"/"yeah, my Dad taught me everything I know" exchange made my heart swell, especially the way Dean was gazing at John when he said that. It's the little things that matter! The sly interrogation was hilarious, especially because it wasn't that subtle at all and Dean just doen't know when to stop - "there been any cattle mutilations in town recently?" LOL! And lmao at Dean's rented/stolen car. Genius. He looks so small in that thing XD Aaaw, and the look on his face when he saw Young!Mary!! The "Sammy, whereever you are, Mom's a babe *pause* I'm going to Hell. Again." line was hilarious, I adored it. Though it kinda surprises me that he can crack jokes about Hell so soon after coming back.
Holy crap, Dean got his ass kicked by his mom!!! She's lethal. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Mary coming from a family of hunters?!!?!!? *DIEZ AND IZ DED* BEST. REVEAL. EVER!!!! Oh my dear Lord, I still can't get over it. Never in a million years did I see that coming, but it's the most awesome thing we could ever have found out about her. I LOVE IT!!! I always thought the hunting began after Mary's death and when John started hunting the YED, but to think that it was actually in the family before all that? Wow. Absolutely immense. Just....wow. I'm still reeling! Loved Dean's introduction to his grandparents, and finding out he was named after his grandmother XD Also, his reaction when Mary said "you'd rather I be with a guy like this?" and she motioned to him was too funny - "nooo, no no no, nooooo, nuh-uh." XD
I LOVE that both Dean and Samuel ended up at the Whiteshire house posing as priests - "Father...I see you beat me here"/"The Lord is funny that way" XD It's just an awesome shout-out to Dean and Sam waaay back in season 1, and I just love the continuity, that even Grandpa Samuel was using the same get-up back in his day of hunting. This family, honestly!! ♥ Also, this is very random, but the guy who plays Charlie in that scene? He has AMAZING blue eyes. And Mary too. Anyway, moving on!
That goodbye scene with Dean and Mary just ripped my heart out and tore it to shreds. SHREDS, I TELLS YOU! But it's also probably my favourite one in the entire episode. Firstly, the revelation that John used to be so sweet and unjaded before becoming a hunter was just astounding, and it's heartbreaking to think of how much he changed when Mary died, because Dean's reaction just told it all - he never got to see that side to his dad, and outwith "John the Hunter", he didn't know his father. That's so sad. And then, Mary's quiet reveal that she didn't want her children to be raised into the hunting life was tragic. You could just see Dean's heart shattering into a million pieces when she said she wouldn't let it happen, unknowing that her death would be the catalyst for the way things turned out, exactly like that. The clincher, though? Dean begging his mom not to get out of bed on the night she got killed. I wanted to hug him and just never let go. Jensen completely nailed that scene, the way his voice trembled, his shaky expression and the lone tear? JESUS! *sobs* Outstanding. It still puts a lump in my throat.
Hey, a 3rd scene with Dean and Castiel?! We're getting spoiled! Again, 'twas awesome. You could tell Dean was taken-aback when Castiel said that Sam wasn't looking for him - his face was like "what, seriously?" It begs the question of what might've happened if Dean had actually been in real trouble, and Sam hadn't known because he'd buggered off somewhere with Ruby. Let's hope we never find out. The fact that Dean chose his parents lives' over the lives of innocents was so telling, and shows how much he's changed since WIAWSNB. Not that I blame him, because after everything he's been through, he deserves to be selfish.
The scene between Dean and possessed!Grandpa was so intense, my heart was in my throat. I haven't given Mitch Pileggi enough props, but man alive, he was AWESOME in this entire episode. I loved his portrayal as the snarky, wisened-up, badass Grandpa Samuel, but when he portrayed YED? Wow. He had the mannerisms and deliveries down perfectly, so even though it was a different actor, it felt like the same demon, if that makes any sense. Sidenote: hey Genevieve, how about you take some lessons from this guy? Anyway. Omfg, the way Dean's expression changed from shock to pure, unadulterated anger/hatred sent chills down my spine. Also "I'm still gonna kill you...maybe not today, but you look into my eyes, you son-of-a-bitch. 'Cos I'm the one that kills you." Fucking HELL. Another scene which pretty much made my screen explode from all the intensity and acting BRILLIANCE. YED can act tough all he wants, that threw him. But that arsehole!!! He killed Grandpa and Grandma Deanna! Nooooo! That was so unexpected and sad.
The end scene had me on the edge of my seat, I swear to God. The fact that it all came down to the YED and Mary, this moment in time that started it all. I cannot BELIEVE she made a deal to save John! Seriously? This family just can't help themselves when it comes to making deals to save loved ones, huh? Having said that, the Campbells/Winchesters are still the best family ever. I loved the exchange when Dean came too late, and Mary just looked at him, the silence saying more than words ever could. Dean looked so broken though!! My poor boy. And when Castiel appeared and put his hand on Dean's shoulder? It looked like he was genuinely sorry. ♥
The ending, in general, Castiel's firm instruction/warning and Dean's glare-of-death? Holy shit! Gone. Totally dead. Also, most evil "To Be Continued" ever.
That was basically an entire ramble of pish, but I had to get it out there. I'm still floored, the show has just outdone itself week after week so far, this season. They've set the bar and I cannot WAIT to see where it goes from here, I have absolute faith it's only going to get better.
