What a day it has been.

Nightmares of being an android with a death sentence in Cuba result in sleeping through part of my mandatory class, then I embarrass myself once I finally stumble in, then spend the rest of the afternoon trying not to be ill. In the end I decided to stay at home during the evening because with luck like this I was liable to get run over by a mad ( Read more... )

First let me say welcome back. :D

Ok, so Im about to finish my third epic length fic, and every time its bittersweet. Its always a relief in a way because Im ready to enjoy some time off and then move on to other fics. But at the same time Im sad because I will miss the characters Ive created and written for so long. Even if its the same pairing over and over again, its always a little different each time. They always have a distinctness in that particular universe. Its sad to let them go.

So in order to make sure the story gets the ending it deserves, I usually go through and reread the fic once, start to finish, and make note of any loose ends that need tying and get a sense of the overall feel of the story to stay consistent. I look at what I want the outcome to be, what mood I want to leave people with when its over. Is it meant to be fluffy, bittersweet, hopeful, vague and open ended, tying into a sequel, etc. Because I love my characters and Im a big sap, I usually want a happy ending. But Ive been notoriously known for nailing people with the bittersweet in the past.

As far as Somewhere is concerned, as a huge fan I (and probably the rest of your readers) want to say give it as happy an ending as it can have and let them be together somehow in the end, even if its years later. But of course I understand if it cant be that way. At least you wont be killing one of them, like I did in Perception. Lol. Just make sure to convey everything you intended to in the beginning, and it will turn out great.

If you want a second opinion on what you have, I'd be happy to read it and give you feedback. I have a few people do that for me and it really helps. Just let me know and Ill give you my email or chat or something. :)

It is sad to see the characters go! Even though I've started that other DeiSaku fic, it's true that it just isn't the same... I am feeling a bit less frantic after a good night's sleep though. :P

I've given the whole fic a read-through, as you suggested. It's interesting to see how it all evolved -- even how my own writing evolved! The ending is what I want -- I feel it ends on the tone I intended and I think it's got everything in there. That said, it's a very different chapter from the others and I'm concerned that it gets bogged down towards the middle. I'm thinking of chopping about 1,000 words from the first half, but my finger always hesitates over the 'delete' key...

However, I know I've put so much into this fic that I can no longer read it over with a purely objective eye. So I will definitely take you up on that second opinion! :)

If the offer stil stands, drop me a line at moonrainstar (at) gmail (dot) com. Or if you've got MSN, you can add me with glorfindel9 (at) hotmail (dot) com. I would be really grateful for a second opinion before the fic is finally released! :)
