All right, if I'm going to be self employed as a freelance contractor, what is the best (translate to "least expensive, yet still effective") way to promote myself?
Craigslist.com. Business cards - I need to determine what services I'm offering, and how best to describe them. Print ads - probably not, lacking a good local source (since publishing a local paper is just not feasible right now...! Oh, the irony.). Tess. Various small business owners I already know. What else?
I need to set up my "office" differently. I need to figure out where to put a small file cabinet. I need effective separation of personal stuff from professional stuff, given the limited space available. Maybe the dining room just needs to be totally overhauled - we rarely eat there anyway. I really do need to get a folding screen, for peace of mind if nothing else. I DO NOT want to be unable to "get out" of the office. As it's going to be in the middle of my house, that's going to pose a challenge. Sounds like an afternoon of drawing lies ahead of me. Followed by some fairly intensive labor. And damn, but it's hot already. Sigh.
Okay, sewing machine where the desk is right now. Bookcases moved to where the sewing machine currently sits. Dining room table - where? Desk and shelves where bookcases are now. That's going to be a lot of work. AND, C- is coming over this evening to finish school shopping for B-, and of course, I'm expected to go with as she needs bras and such. He flies out tomorrow for four weeks and she'll have started school again by the time he's back in the country. Thank God he offered to do all of this as I just can't right now.
Sometimes my life feels like an incessant juggling act.
And I need to pay the mortgage today.
