I dropped Tom off at the airport this morning. Got him all packed up last night and amazingly crammed a week's worth of hunting paraphernalia into one duffle. I am good. Talked him into taking a garment bag carry on for suits/dress shirts and placing the binoculars and some other electronics in the bottom of that - I mean c'mon...a person sees a "Cabela's" duffle and it screams I'VE GOT LOTS OF HUNTING GEAR AND EQUIPMENT IN HERE. I hate to be untrusting, but, well, a person has to consider the possibilities.
I thought we had considered all of the restrictions, but he called me later to tell me they confiscated his cologne. In was in too large of a bottle, for pete's sake . Anyway, I went back to the airport and recovered it. I wasn't quite sure what the policies were, but I thought it was worth a try - plus, this is stuff from his daughter and is a bit on the pricey side. Well worth it and I felt rather smug over the victory. It helps that we have a piddly-sized airport, too. I'm sure if I had asked at DIA, I would have been arrested.
Cologne is obviously not a deer attractant, but this is a multi-purpose trip. Bow hunting the rut with his brother, 2 recruitment presentations for the PD and he is teaching a leadership class at his alma mater, Michigan State. I wish I could be there for the state doins, he plays it down, but I know what a big deal that is to him. Could be that out of these efforts, a part time gig might surface for post-retirement activity. That would be all kinds of awesome for him. Lansing isn't that far from our new soon-to-be home. He's looked into some of the community colleges, too. Lots of good stuff packed into 10 days for him.
So I'm gonna hit a craft show, an art sale at the NIC, and a play at the community theatre I hope to check out. Sunday I'll see if Tess wants to see the new Madagascar movie. Next week I head south to the Springs for a joint birthday celebration for 2 of the grandkiddies. I'll be sure to pack my energy drinks and Prozac for that trip. I have been down each year and it becomes quite the party. exhausting. Then Tug and I will return home on Sunday and pick up the big man at the airport late that night.
whew.
For Thanksgiving, Erin, Tim and their brood, Tom, Tess and I will descend upon family
abbacat . Here's hoping our mild autumn holds for the road trip. Am hoping as well that UC doesn't get in a warp to have my pre-screening done and/or treatment initiation. One day at a time says I.
Its still crappy, windy and cold here - but no snow. (All of the white stuff dumped on
bassnote .) So today will do some indoors stuff, laundry and likely get a nap.
It's a pretty good day :)
