hokey smokes is time sprinting by!

we had an awesome 4th - grandkids here with my daughter and s-i-l. men played golf in the morning, we went to dinner, then to a ball game, then stayed for fireworks. the kids played chase ion the grass as the sky lit up. we sang 'take me out to the ballgame' about 18 times on the way home. it was like the family times when my own children were young, very much fun and good memories.

Tess had her big date the next night and Erin went with me to chaperone. It was an amazing and emotionally intense experience. they were so cute together.

we are having AWEsome weather - it's like the way it used to be in Wyoming. 80-something degree days and 40's at night. you can take the heat when it cools off like that at night... we must pull up the quilt in the wee hours. everything is still reasonably green and the antelope babies are plentiful :)

we have assaulted the house painting once again. this summer it WILL get done. man is this a lot of house from the outside, urg.

Fred and Michelle came for a brief visit and took the horses with them back to Trinidad. I do so miss my friend Jed, but in a month, I will see him again.

Saturday, i watched as the last of the new ducklings was born. took about 45 mins for the little fellow to free himself from the eggshell. I was exhausted just watching, but how many times do you get to witness birth? not many, and it is worth the time.
funny, 'cause I have been a bit stressed lately - mind spinning, not sleeping well...and I happened to be checking on the babies that had hatched the day before. I got there just at the top of the egg was cracking open. so i says to myself, 'self, sit down, be quiet and watch'. so i did :)

we're squeezing in a quick trip to Michigan, leaving this Friday thru next Saturday. not even going to think about the gas bill.

i'm l-o-v-i-n-g my new bike - i grin like an idiot whenever i crank it up. i've put almost 500 miles on it and ride whenever i can. i ordered the saddle bags last week, that will help it be more useful for errands. right now i only have a web tie down and a backpack.

Tom and i have been talking A LOT about retirement and going to Trinidad. Fred and Michelle graciously worked out a more doable schedule and I will be going down to cook. I work two weeks and am home one starting the middle of Aug thru Nov 5th. It will give me a chance to see if I can handle the wacky hours. the money is freaking bodacious.
i am so ready to be rid of our 'chiefly' identity. we are looking at two years, July 1, 2010.

can't figure it out exactly, but am still doing pretty well health-wise. feeling good and reasonable energy. i have an ultrasound and bloodwork coming up - am anxious to see how things look.

well, many things to do before we head out on Friday - thought i'd zip off a quick post.

family, retirement, critters, a good day
