Well, I was thinking about getting away with just a quiz post, but I thought better of it. So I'm here in Bad Kreuznach
http://www.stadt-bad-kreuznach.de/ with my host family, the wonderful Familie Lorenz. My father is a Pastor at the local Evangelische Landeskirche, my mother was a nurse but is currently hausfrau. I have two younger sisters, Jael (15) and Jordana (17) and and oler sister Judith (19) and an older brother Jonathan (22). I am thoroughly enjoying myself here, though i do occasionally miss some of you and/or something American.
So the other day we went to go see 'die Nibelungen'(the story of siegfried and his interactions with the mythical (or not so mythical) race of Nibelungens) in Worms ... yeah. the first hour or so was great:
beautiful sunset over the church, good actors, Brunhilde running around topless. Then about 15 minutes before the intermission ... WHOOSH it started absolutely pouring! In true "the show must go on" fashion, the actors paid the rain no mind, everyone in the audience pulled out ponchos and the show went on. 'twas quite cool.
last night was judith's going away party which was cool. lots of food, beer, and people. I met all the guys from this local band 'the oblivion' they're pretty cool and want me to check out their lyrics to see if the English is right. hee hee.
Sunday, in church, the 'singing family lorenz' + moi sang "good news, chariot's comin'" which was cool. the rehearsals at home were rather interesting though ... no one would be quiet long enough for us to all start together!
I've been watching the news (we get CNN international ... in English!) about Katrina; she sounds like a real doozy of a storm. Hope nobody we know was too badly affected!
OH!! In other news, I had an interview today with a reporter from Algemeimer Zeitung (the local newspaper. My Bundestag Abgeordneterin (Parliamentary Representative) called a friend of hers at the newspaper, told them about me, and they agreed to write a little story about me! Cool, huh?
Two nights ago, I started my career as an English teacher. The Lorenz clan is very good friend with the Schamare Family and Paul, the father, asked me to help him out with his English. So we went out to his favorite spot, a really pretty scenic walkway on the Rotfels, the hills over looking the neighboring town of Bad Munster. We saw three hot air balloons and an old bi-wing plane!
I just finished playing a truly addicting domino game called "Mexican Train" with Magdalene, Judith, and David Schamare. Jordana's friend Suzie came to visit (from somewhere rather distant) and they along with Kirsten (another one of Jordana's friends) are making quite a racket in the next room.
We also just got an invitation from the Prince and Princess of Salm-Salm to come to their picnic before the performance of "King Lear" we are going to see on 10. September. (While this may sound cool, I don't think its all that special, i think all ticket holders are invited to the picnic and that the Prince and Princess of Salm-Salm just happen to own the castle where the performance will be taking place!)
Thats all for now,
~Dustin
