London's congestion charge and consequent traffic reduction hasn't helped the air. While it's still far away from the pea-soup smogs of yore, the Old Smoke still has these air quality problems.

Afghan "health link" to uranium. As in apparently the large amount of expended depleted uranium ordnance is having a very bad effect on the health of Afghanis. Yeah, I'm shocked too.
