Well, after the mega-dose "catch-up-a-thon" I just did with Battlestar Galactica, and all the associations it spurred re storytelling craft issues, I took refuge in the kitchen over the weekend while my hindbrain worked on Plot Things and Craft Things and such.
Peach pie, cobbler, stuffed zucchini, zucchini/tomato dip, flat bread, a lamb roast and a multitude of meat pasties later (yes, all from scratch), I have had one big epiphany and distilled a set of major "lessons learned" about my craft (the writing, not the cooking) that bubbled up throughout all this kitchen therapy.
Wow.
In fact, I have just identified some things I've been doing for years *unconsciously* that work well in my writing, but now they have just gelled in my mind as specific techniques I can use on purpose to produce knock-out crisis/resolution points and more. Yay me. And my sister and new friend J are happy because they are getting the benefit of the kitchen overflow.
If I continue to do a lot of intensive work on my craft, I am going to need a commercial kitchen. And since I still have the urge to bake bread and make dim sum pork buns, there must be a few more insights that need shaking loose from my subconscious.
Maybe tomorrow...
