Loved you mentioning that it is a DRILL.

In my writing craft pieces at aliendjinnromances.blogspot.com I repeatedly drill into writers that it's a craft as much as an art, and "drilling" (practice) is the only way to bring that skill set to professional level.

Also, you are correct that the 7 part Editing series focuses on mass market paperback -- but the reason that editing process is the way it is has to be taken into account.

Mass Market is successful because of some of the things about it's process that are antithetical to the writer's payload.

My series of posts on writing craft also discuss how e-book publishers, and self-publishers, are re-shaping the fiction delivery system, and the speed with which that's happening.

We are in "interesting times" -- we get to make decisions that will shape the future in ways that the previous generation could not.
