Master's List ~*~
Beaten
~*~
Maybe it was just out of a whim
When he signalled Tosh to run.
Maybe it wasn't.
RUN.
One word...
The only instinct Ianto wanted to follow
More than anything.
But he didn't.
Death and decay
Obscuring every clear thought.
Ianto doesn't want to be here…
Doesn't want to be abused…
Doesn't want to bleed out of his nose…
And strangely enough...
He doesn't want to die...
He takes the beats one after another
Not out of a sudden need to be heroic
Or out of a twisted desire for repentance
Ianto wants to live...
But better him than Tosh, right?
~*~
Running and Fighting
~*~
Tosh runs.
Away…
To get help…
…Ianto…
His voice pierces through the forest;
He’s getting closer…
Tosh’s heartbeat increases;
Her chest hurts
Ianto’s still back there.
She can’t let him find her.
***
Jack strives for answers…
The other man is in pain.
This is so easy…
A little bit of pressure
And the pain increases to an almost unbearable level
Jack doesn’t care about his pain
He wants the truth…
He wants his team back
This man is an obstacle
One push, one pained yell…
Another reason to loathe himself
But not now…
Jack wants them back.
~*~
Emotional Aftermath
~*~
One arm around him,
A simple means of consolation…
Ianto looks up,
Just to meet Tosh’s eyes.
She takes him into her arms
He hurts, but Ianto smiles.
Gwen staggers and falls
Wanting to share the shit with somebody…
Anybody…
No matter whom.
Rhys watches telly.
Gwen lied again
He drowns his doubts in crisps and beer.
That’s the thing about doing the wrong thing
After a certain time you don’t notice anymore
Nobody takes notice…
But now Gwen does notice Owen
He almost killed…
He would have enjoyed it…
Jack sits in his office,
Drowning the monster in vodka
~*~
Drowning I
~*~
The hub is dark when Ianto enters
Not very inviting…
But still better than his flat
In a way it’s comfy in all its darkness.
His feet move on their own accord…
Even before Ianto knows that he’s moving
Pacing towards Jack’s badly lit office.
Despite all the darkness…
It takes Ianto only a whiff to notice
That it isn’t Water Jack pours down his throat
Jack looks at the young man
But sees right through him.
Worried and unseen Ianto settles opposite Jack,
Wincing at the strain in his ribs
Jack’s head shoots up
Now he sees him.
~*~
Different Forms of Solitude
~*~
All by herself, Tosh runs a bath,
The water runs, runs and runs
Raising, raising, raising…
Burying her body
Under layers of foam and bubbles
No pain, no hopes, no fears…
Nothing,
Just water…
Caressing, holding, engulfing her
Toshiko Sato is floating
She can cope…
She is strong
***
Writhing beneath silken sheets
Much needed contact…
Skin against skin
Two people in the bedroom
Both know it’s not love that drives them
Owen and Gwen know they’re wrong
But at this moment none of them cares.
And all the while they’re drowning
In self-contempt and delusions
All by themselves.
~*~
Drowning II
~*~
Staring at each other in silence
Jack fills his glass.
But Ianto is the one who drinks
…An unspoken challenge....
Their gazes stay locked.
Jack fills it anew…
Ianto empties it again.
One glass after another…
At the fifth one
Jack catches Ianto’s wrist.
A struggle of wills…
A static tableau…
Until the glass breaks.
Ianto stares at the trickling blood
Unwilling to give way to emotions
Tears trickle down
As soon as Jack gently caresses the cuts with his lips
His or Jack’s…all the same.
Both are drowning…
But together they’re safe
In the secretive darkness of the hub.
~*~
The Stray Kitten
~*~
It’s cold outside
When Tosh walks into the shivering animal.
She looks into those big brown eyes
Lost, deserted and lonely…
A little kitten…
All on its own…
Nobody cares.
Tosh takes the kitten home
And shares her food
But the animal struggles
Unwilling to understand the sudden kindness
It bites into the offered hand
Until beads of blood trickle down her fingers.
Tosh doesn’t flinch
The animal calms down, releasing her hand
Again Tosh offers the cat food
She can’t hide a smile
When the kitten hesitantly approaches its meal
She falls asleep with the kitten on her lap.

Remarkably Okay
~*~
A soft sigh escapes Ianto’s lips
As Jack continues his ministrations
… caring and gentle…
Almost too gentle
As if Ianto would matter altogether…
But instead of taking the lead as usual
Jack hands over control again
One affirmative look and Ianto accepts
Ragged breathing,
Quivering legs and throaty moans
As Jack embraces him in all his need
Silent begs…
Complete submission
What brought it forth?
Ianto can’t really say it matters at all
As he drives Jack into the mattress
Sheathing himself into this incredible warmth
As the other man loses every restraint...
Fingers dig deeply into Ianto’s shoulder
His name echoes through heated air
Gasped like a prayer, it repeats itself like a litany
Leaving Jack’s lips, again and again…
Still, it’s neither the wanton kisses
Nor the glorious image of Jack,
Hair mussed, lips kiss-swollen, face flushed…
And completely undone
Which get Ianto the most.
It’s these small suggestions...
In a variation of touches and looks
Almost too short to bear significance
But they do.
Jack never asks Ianto to hold him
Once it’s over...
Ianto does it nonetheless.
And as he spoons against the contently sighing man
It strikes Ianto that he is feeling remarkably okay.

An Unexpected Visitor
~*~
It’s a ring that wakes her from her slumber.
Tosh is surprised when she opens her door. “Owen?”
“Just wanted to check on you.”
His eyes fall on her bandaged hand
“That wasn’t there when we parted.”
“I’m fine, Owen, it’s just a bite mark.” Tosh sighs “Go home.”
“Not without taking a look at it first.”
“What?” Tosh asks dryly “Seeing any foam bubbles in front of my mouth?”
“Not yet.” Her mouth feels even drier when Owen grabs hold of her hand
“Just let me make sure you’re alright before I bugger of, okay?”
Tosh steps aside. “Come in then.”
~*~
Life Amongst Other Things
~*~
On the next night Jack takes them to a rooftop
One of his rooftops
He shows them the lights,
Not the ones above
But the ones beneath them…
“This is what we protect; take a good look at it.”
“It’s bloody freezing!” Gwen shivers
“It’s windy!” Owen mutters
“It’s beautiful…” Tosh gasps
“It’s life.” Ianto whispers,
Not without a tiny hint of awe.
All eyes dart towards him
Gawping, frowning, understanding…
But it’s just one pair of eyes Ianto really sees…
They’re Jack’s
They’re warm…
And they’re smiling.
