Alessandra was very iffy about having space to herself. Most of her time, it seemed, was spent establishing her own personal bubble. Of course, true to her nature, the bubble wasn't about being afraid of germs or anything in that realm--the bubble was about exclusivity. True, Alessandra wasn't fond of germs, but she had to establish a boundary to other people that plainly said "WORLD: property of Alessandra; don't touch, on pain of death." She loved that feeling--being a snotty mega-bitch, looking down her nose at people, knowing people didn't have the fondest thoughts of her. Wasn't it grand?...Some people said her judgement was off...but it suited Alessandra just fine. And besides, those people were probably just ugly ( ... )

Harper was very many things but one thing she was not was oblivious of her affect on other Slytherins. Or oblivious to how they viewed her. She simply didn't care. She fully believed that she was just as well off without the approval of haughty, pureblooded Snakes who saw themselves as God's gift to the world. She had plenty of other, better people to be her friends. Here lay one major difference between the two girls: Harper's bubble was far bigger, perhaps even nonexistent ( ... )

Ouch. Harper Wright had just broken a cardinal rule of dealing with other girls: never insinuate that one was fat...to her face, that was. Of course, Alessandra had dished out more than her own fair share of "look at that whale" sort of comments in the past couple years, but she'd never taken them that well. Or even well at all.

She visibly did a double take, apparent in a subtle wideness of her eyes. She blinked at Harper, deciding whether to take the whirlwind approach or the silent, offended approach. She instead took neither one.

She nearly made the mistake of pointing out that she was quite the same size as Harper, thank-you-very-much, but then Harper could take it as a compliment, because obviously Alessandra was the perfect size...right?
