Jed sighed, bringing his hand to brush at the tears threatening in his eyes, "I can't do it, Abbey."

"Do what?"

"Be president without her. I don't even know what to do."

Abbey pursed her lips together before gently running her fingers along the side of her husband's face, "Sure you do."

He glanced at her expectantly.

"Tonight you're going to hold your wife, and tomorrow you're going to be the leader of the free world again. And we're going to deal with the MS. Mrs. Landingham won't be there. But, by God, you're not quitting, jackass."

Jed lifted his glass to his lips, tilting his head back and draining the last of the scotch. He leaned forward and set it on the table before steeling his eyes on Abbey. With a brief nod, he leaned back and held out his arms. His arms instinctively wrapped around her as she lay her head on his chest.

"Abbey?" He wondered softly after a few moments.

"Hmmm?" She didn't move from her spot, her hand absently tracing circles on his thigh.

"She paid sticker price. For her car. Mrs. Landingham paid sticker price."

He couldn't see her face, but he knew Abbey was rolling her eyes. And when she shook her head slightly, he sighed and pressed a kiss to the top of his wife's head as he silently wondered how he was going to do any of this without Mrs. Landingham in the outer office.

Sniffle. This especially -- "Delores Landingham was driving her brand new car, and she was killed by a drunk driver. You don't have the power to control everything, Jed. You might be the President of the United States, but you didn't kill Mrs. Landingham." -- was pitch perfect. So very Abbey's voice.
