So i have made a couple friends here in the Italian bear community. One of them is a Finnish Shoe designer. Apparently he is pretty popular in some fashion circles and has even had his shoes featured in GQ. Thats pretty cool. (He didn't tell me that, i looked around for him on the interwebs) his partner lives in London and he rents an apartment in Florence for when he is teaching over here at the fashion school. ANYWAY, the moral of this story is that today, i went over to his place to have lunch. We took a tram. Which is a train that goes short distances i guess. outside of the center of Florence is a totally different world. there is tons of apartment buildings that were built in the 20th century! not incredibly old palaces and town houses that were converted into apartments. And they have a supermarket! it was totally amazing! so much food and it was much cheaper than the touristy parts of the center! i got to take the bus back.
I learned how to use billetas (tickets)! you can buy a ticket for 4 rides and each time you get on the bus you have to validate your ticket. if you don't and you get caught you can get a hefty fine. the validation box is a little yellow box inside the bus or tram and you insert the ticket and it prints a stamp on it. my ticket i think called a quatrrocarta was 4 euro 70. thats how you say prices here. not 40dollars and 70cents. my walking adventure as almost rendered me disabled. i have a really painful blister on the pad of my foot just under my big toe on each foot. it really hurts to walk. and thats all i do here.
School starts tomorrow. its beginning Italian. Over by the Duomo. a 10 min walk at least. *sigh* oh well. i guess i will just suck it up. i need to find a drug store and buy some blister bandaids.
i'm off to sleep so i can get up for school.
