FABRIC:
I decided that since this blanket would be eventually residing in Western Canada in the winter, it was a good idea to make it out of flannelette. When I went searching for flannelette, and found mostly flannel, I started to wonder about the differences between the two. Turns out, according to Wikipedia, they are the same thing. Though they say that the term 'flannelette' isn't used in Canada.

I called around all of the quilting shops in the area, asking about flannelette fabric. What I really wanted was a bunch of solid colours for the front, and a space-y vortex-y thing for the backing, like this fabric:

Oh well. That's probably not flannelette anyway!!

Months after the quilt was finished, I was looking in a Fabricland store in Brandon, Manitoba. And if you need flannelette for quilting, go to *this store*. They had so much it was crazy. You know what I found?

This was actually the *first* one I found, I liked the second one much better. DARNITALL.

I wound up buying nearly everything from Fabricland, which had a 40% off sale as well as a whole bunch of solid colours. For some reason, they didn't actually carry orange, which was weird. It was also a problem, because I needed orange for Raisin Head's snow suit, as well as the Jayne hat. I wound up buying this:

It was hilariously a bit more expensive than what I actually wanted, but I think it gave the front a certain flair.

(Raisin Head is the baby's current nickname, because they were told that it was the size of a raisin when they found out they were pregnant.)

I still couldn't find anything that I liked for the backing, however.
After talking with robocluck, I decided that my best bet would be to check out Value Village, and see what kind of flannelette blankets they had. The choice came down to horses, or a blue plaid thing.

Since my sister is very proud of our Scottish heritage and is in a pipe band… It was perfect!

I washed everything it warm and dried it on cool, because I'm pretty sure that she'll just wash it on cold and dry it on cool, so it shouldn't shrink.

I also have to find a link to that Fabricland commercial, since that's what my roommate says nearly every time I say where I'm going.
