Warning: Extremely biased views herein. Extremely biased. I hate Block B.
What the Hell Am I Watching?
Nanlina, also stylized as Nanrina, Nalina, 난리나, or, as we here at WTHAISWT have come to call it, "Narnia," is the most recently debuted music video of Korean idol group
Block B. I'm going to say it again. I hate Block B.
Why the Hell Am I Watching This?
Headed by an arrogant douche with a gigantic head and homophobic tendencies named Zico, this group has never managed to accrue a very large fanbase, yet they keep making "music." I don't understand. Still, despite all that, I decided to give this music video a try. I attempt to keep an open mind about this kind of stuff because I've been pleasantly (and unpleasantly) surprised in the past. For instance,
B.A.P is a fresh, new group that debuted with their song
Warrior not long ago and even though I thoroughly, completely, and truly hated everything that was the music video
Never Give Up by two B.A.P members Bang and Zelo, I gave Warrior a try and discovered it was incredibly good. So, bearing this in mind, I tried (really, really tried) to like Narnia.
Why the Hell Am I Still Watching This?
I'll tell you why I'm still watching this: POO POO CA CA.
See, for those not watching the video because you trust in my opinions (I love you all), you didn't get to enjoy the splendor that is the literal lyrics "goo goo ga ga" repeated several times throughout this masterpiece. And if you think about "poo poo ca ca" instead, it's freaking hiarious. In fact, it's hilarious as "goo goo ga ga" as well, but I like making good things even better.
Second reason I'm still watching this: Crazy furry-armed-jacket clad young men throwing their arms above their heads and swaying them about in a crude imitation of gorillas (I assume). Actually actual choreography. Like, as in, a choreographer did his best with this song and came up with that and the guys did it and they worked really hard on perfecting it and now do it several times a week in public onstage in front of a live audience. Somehow, none of them have committed honorable suicide despite the incredible embarrassment they must be feeling and the shame they have brought their families.
So, there I am, dancing around my living room like a gorilla, yelling "Poo poo ca ca!" like a madwoman, and thoroughly enjoying this music video. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. It's so catchy, but so very, very bad.
I guess the music video had a storyline. I managed to discern some of it between peals of laughter and acting(?) insane. There's two "groups," I suppose, "gangs" if you prefer, and they have some kind of battle. Zico drinks something that looks horrifyingly like pee. He also handcuffs some chick for no readily apparent reason (maybe he's just into that kind of thing). And the fighting is terrible and terribly fake. And most of it is dancing. I think that's the whole story.
Oh yeah, and the song is about how awesome they are. Lyrics: "I don't know, I don't know, I don't know but I'm hot, hot. You know what, you know what, you know what, what I mean, mean." Considering this was written by none other than the king of arrogance, Zico, I'm not surprised.
This video is the best, worst, most interesting, most confusing, weirdest, funniest, catchiest, most horrible thing Block B has ever come out with. I need to repeat myself again here to emphasize that this video is bad. Yes, I will continue to watch it regularly and even often sing it to myself ("Nanli nanli nanlina...") but I will hate myself just a little bit every time I do.
