This week was the 3D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles, a large industry shindig that draws corporate types together with creatives to talk about the future of 3D technology in movies, games, and more. According to a release about the conference, not everybody there was happy about 3D:
But there were also words of caution, eloquently expressed by writer/director M. Night Shyamalan in a special keynote interview with conference chairman Bob Dowling. Shyamalan, a self-described non-techie, said he was wary that audiences' expectations of 3D films will force filmmakers to compromise "story-telling integrity" for eye-catching special effects. "3D is like candy," said Shyamalan, "and I'm afraid if we don't give the audience lots of 3D candy they'll be disappointed."
