"A senior House Democrat from New York is proposing that the military reinstate the draft.

Congressman Charles Rangel of Manhattan says right now there just aren't enough troops to handle the situation in Iraq as well as possible threats from Iran or North Korea in the future.

Rangel is a Korean War veteran. He has unsuccessfully sponsored similar bills in the past that also called for a draft."

You know, I didn't support the democrats so they could turn around and do something like this, hopefully everyone else in the house has the sense to kill this proposition. From what I understand, Pelosi isn't supporting the idea so hopefully other democrats, and republicans share the same stance.

So let's say there is a draft, well, the quality of your soldiers go down. They aren't going to be as professional and since most of the people probably don't want to be there it'll show in troop morale. We've already had a few instances of less than professional behaviour in Iraq, the kind that warrants investigations and possible criminal charges and with a conscripted army I would go as far to say that would become more common. It would hurt us, it would add to the anger that the Muslim world has for us and it would hurt us even in our allies eyes.
