Series: Little Voice (A Sara Bareilles Themeset)
Author: Honorarymaraudr
Rating: PG for the series, mostly just for language
Warnings: Each part is different but there are no real triggers. Just some fluff and some breakup angst.
Spoilers: Only the season 3 assumption that Blaine will be at McKinley
Authors Note: Each part is titled and based after a song on the album “Little Voice.” The parts are in chronological order-- not in order of the cd. There will be a few different pairings. Obviously Klaine but also Finchel. Britana and Faberry. Klaine will not always be the main pairing in each part but Blaine is the thread that holds the entire verse together. So they are always referenced. Also, sometimes the song will be featured as something the character is singing and sometimes they will just be listening to it. Each song is very important in the fic and the storyline.

(Part One)  (Part Two)

Part 3: Between The Lines
Pairing: Britana with background Klaine
Summary: Santana is still hurt over Brittany and not ready to come out. Brittany is willing to be her best friend but will not truly be with her unless Santana can be honest with herself. Santana finds a note in her locker with a cd and decides to listen to it (since its obviously the Hobbits handwriting.)

Santana Lopez was not having a good day. It had been a year since she admitted to her best friend, Brittany Pierce, that she loved her. Really loved her. The good thing was that Brittany loved her too-but the bad thing was that Santana was not ready to get a dyke-spike and wear flannel. So Brittany stayed in the friend zone no matter how enticing Santana could be. It was really starting to drag on Santana and for some reason her mind had decided to remember the date that she'd confessed to Brittany. By the end of the day she felt like she was going to fly into a million piece-and that vulnerability had only made her more sarcastic and more sharp. She'd made 5 freshmen cry by lunch and 3 of them were boys.

Santana made her way to her locker after the final bell and pulled it open. Right on top of her books was a cd with a note. She sneered at the giant smiley face on the paper and rolled her eyes. This was obviously the work of the Hobbit. She could smell him all over it-cheesy notes and what was mostly likely a very sappy cd. She opened the note and scanned the paper.

Santana,
You seemed sad today and Kurt filled me in
on the whole thing. You left the cd I made for
the club last week, so I decided to re-gift it.
Listen to number 7 and if you need someone
to talk to, give me a call. I know you took my
number out of Kurt's phone when you stole it
a few weeks ago.
--Blaine

Santana forced her face into a sneer-even though she could feel a smile threatening-- and shoved the note and cd into her backpack. She walked to her car alone and once she was inside with tinted windows where no one could see her, she smiled a little as she pulled the cd back out of her bag. She put the cd into the stereo and flipped through the tracks until she reached number 7. The song starts out slow and Santana is already planning to murder Blaine because she can tell that this is going to make her cry.

Time to tell me the truth
To burden your mouth for what you say
No pieces of paper in the way
Cause I can't continue pretending to choose
These opposite sides on which we fall
The loving you laters if at all
No right minds could wrong be this many times

My memory is cruel
I'm queen of attention to details
Defending intentions if he fails
Until now, he told me her name
It sounded familiar in a way
I could have sworn I'd heard him say it ten thousand times
If only I had been listening

Oh no, it was official. Santana was going to have to go all Lima Heights Adjacent on Blaine's ass because Santana could feel heat behind her eyelids and she could feel all the pain and rejection building up in her chest. It felt overwhelming but it was also cathartic to let some of it bubble over and out. Santana had held all over it so deep inside of her for the past year that she felt like she was drowning in it sometimes.

Leave unsaid unspoken
Eyes wide shut unopened
You and me
Always between the lines
Between the lines

I thought i thought i was ready to bleed
That we'd move from the shadows on the wall
And stand in the center of it all
Too late two choices to stay or to leave
Mine was so easy to uncover
He'd already left with the other
So I've learned to listen through silence

Santana dug her phone out of her purse and squinted at the screen. She found Blaine's number easily and tapped furiously at the screen. “I hate you.”

Blaine texted back instantly, as if he were waiting for her to message him. “No you don't. Why don't you come to the Lima Bean with us.”

Santana blinked rapidly so she could read the message and sniffled a bit. She was profoundly glad that her tint was so dark it was practically illegal. “I don't need your gay charity.”

“Santana, we're supposed to be friends now, remember? That's what you told me at the pool party when you were drunk.”

Santana could almost hear him laughing softly at her and she cursed as she tossed her phone into the passenger seat.

I tell myself all the words he surely meant to say
I'll talk until the conversation doesn't stay on
Wait for me I'm almost ready
When he meant let go

Leave unsaid unspoken
Eyes wide shut unopened
You and me
Always be
You and me
Always between the lines

Santana managed to make it to the Lima Bean without running over any pedestrians-- a feat she was very proud of. She took a moment to clean her face up before she stalked inside. She saw Kurt and Blaine in a comer booth and sneered when Blaine smiled at her.

“You owe me coffee and a cookie right now or I will kick your ass.” She growled as she threw herself into the booth across from them.

“Of course dearest, give me just a second.” Blaine winked and slid out of the booth.

Kurt was eyeing her curiously. He could see the tell-tale tracks down her cheeks but he wasn't sure what to say to her.

“I'm fine, Hummel. Your stupid hobbit boyfriend is a dick though.”

Kurt laughed at her tone. It was obvious that she adored Blaine-really she had ever since that ill-fated party in Rachel's basement. The past summer and school year had cemented their friendship. It was a little odd to see their dark heads bowed together sometimes since they were such polar opposites but they balanced each other out. He was actually getting used to her grating wit and her tendency to crash their dates.

“Your coffee and cookie, madam.” Blaine bowed as he sat the items on the table.

“Don't push it, Anderson.”

“You love me.”

“Whatever, I'm gonna eat this cookie then I am so out of here.”

Santana ate her cookie, but made no move to get up. Blaine couldn't stop smiling and she made no move to kill him for it either.
