Series: Little Voice (A Sara Bareilles Themeset)
Author: Honorarymaraudr
Rating: PG for the series, mostly just for language
Warnings: Each part is different but there are no real triggers. Just some fluff and some breakup angst.
Spoilers: Only the season 3 assumption that Blaine will be at McKinley
Authors Note: Each part is titled and based after a song on the album “Little Voice.” The parts are in chronological order-- not in order of the cd. There will be a few different pairings. Obviously Klaine but also Finchel, Britana and Faberry. Klaine will not always be the main pairing in each part but Blaine is the thread that holds the entire verse together. So they are always referenced. Also, sometimes the song will be featured as something the character is singing and sometimes they will just be listening to it. Each song is very important in the fic and the storyline. (Sorry, long A/N is long.)
Part One: Love Song
Pairings: Klaine, Finchel
Summary: Senior year just started and Finn is already sick of Rachel bossing him around. He vents to Blaine and ends up singing about how he feels.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMmJL7fOr_4 Finn was irritated. Actually, irritated was a mild was to describe his mood. One week into the school year and Rachel Berry was already driving him nuts. They has agreed at the end of last year to stay together and see where their relationship takes them. The summer was easy enough-- Rachel went to four different music camps and Finn was busy with football-- but now that they saw each other five days a week, it was too much. It started off innocently enough. Rachel made him a new kitten calendar and planned a few dates. Finn was used to that.
Then she started throwing sheet music at him and demanding that he learned every male/female duet known to man. Then she added rehearsal dates in the calendar too. This didn't even leave him time to sleep between homework and football practice. THEN she reminded him of the Glee Clubs tradition of original songs and ordered him to write her a song. Song writing was NOT Finn Hudsons forte. He wasn't good with words or expressing himself-- he usually let someone else do it for him. It was too much and when the bell rang for study period he stomped down to the library and scanned the room for Blaine. They had this period together and usually met at the computers.
Just as Finn expected, he found Blaine sitting at one of the computers against the far wall with his backpack in the chair next to him. Finn stormed over and sat it on the ground before flopping into the chair dramatically. Blaine raised an eyebrow at him and waited silently. After a moment of sulking Finn sighed and slumped down in the chair.
“It's Rachel. She is so freaking bossy and she wants all of my time to herself. She wants me to take her on dates, learn romantic duets AND write her some stupid love song. She probably wants me to write it about her headband.” Finn pouted and Blaine laughed quietly at him.
“I'm sorry man, but you knew what you were getting in to.”
“I know but jeeze, I thought it might be a little different. That maybe we'd grown up a little but I was wrong. I don't want to write a love song, Blaine. I don't write songs-- I play the drums and I sing. That's it.” Finn sighed again and Blaine took pity on him.
“Ok, if there's anything I've learn from being around you guys is that whenever someone in the Glee Club has something important to say-they sing about it. Maybe you should sing her a song telling her how you feel.” Blaine advised.
“But what song?” Finn asked excitedly.
“I know just the one. Come on, the choir room will be empty. I can teach it to you.”

When the rest of the Glee Club filed in an hour later, they were a little confused to see Finn and Blaine sitting at the piano together laughing.
“Should I be worried?” Kurt asked, one hand on his hip.
Blaine laughed as Finn flushed bright red and began to sputter.
“No dear, I was just helping Finn learn a song.” Blaine used his most charming smile and Kurt rolled his eyes before taking his seat.
“So does that mean you guys have something to perform for us today?” Mr. Shue asked.
“Yeah.” Finn said as he turned to face the rest of the group. Everyone had taken their seats and Rachel was watching him curiously. “Blaine is helping me sing a song today to express my...feelings I guess.” Finn shrugged and a few people giggled.
Finn nodded to Blaine and took a deep breath. He was pretty good at memorizing lyrics and they'd run through the song a few times already. The Blaine began to pluck out the piano part and Finn tried to relax a little, but all the thoughts in his head wouldn't slow down. Instead he decided to let his frustration bleed into the song in hopes he'd get his message across.
Head under water
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
Made room for me but it's too soon to see
If I'm happy in your hands
I'm unusually hard to hold on to
Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well, but you make this hard on me
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
Finn tried not to notice Rachel stiffening in her seat or the angry twist of her lips. For the love of Grilled Cheesus, couldn't she see how difficult she was being? Finn was only one person, a 17 year old boy. He wasn't some hot-shot songwriter-- he wasn't even a real singer. They were just schoolkids in a school club.
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today
I learned the hard way
That they all say things you want to hear
And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and
Your twisted words,
Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
Hello to high and dry
Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am
Blaine sang along with him during the chorus, their voices very round together. Finn tore his eyes away from Rachel and looked at his fellow Glee Clubbers. Kurt was nodding approvingly and the girls were grinning like crazy. They probably thought it was cute that he was singing a girls song. Mr. Shue looked impressed with his initiative and Quinn looked... well different. Finn didn't see her at all during the summer and she seemed very quiet, contemplative. It was like she was putting a giant puzzle together in her head.
Promise me that you'll leave the light on
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone
'cause I believe there's a way you can love me
Because I say
I won't write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
Is that why you wanted a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
I don't want it for a minute
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that
There's a reason to
Write you a love song today
The song ended and there was sparodic clapping. It was like everyone was waiting for the real show to begin. Rachel was practically vibrating with the need to throw a Diva fit and they held their breaths. Puck broke the silence with a laugh.
“Dude, I can't believe you sang that. Gayest thing I've seen all week and Kurt and Blaine are here every day.”
The comment was enough to startle a laugh out of Kurt but he quickly schooled his face into his trademark “Bitch Please” expression.
“And what was so gay about it, Noah?” He asked archly.
“Chick song, dude.”
“Come on Puck, I thought we'd already learned that 'music has no gender.'” Finn retorted-obviously quoting his step-brother.
Puck was still laughing but Finn knew that he didn't really mean anything by it. He was mostly covering the silence until Rachel exploded. Finally she had enough and leapt to her feet.
“I cannot believe that is the only comment anyone has. The song was obviously ill-rehearsed and sloppy. Finn, you should not try to sing songs that are outside your range-both your vocal and emotional range.” She spat before turning on her heel and storming out.
“I think it was great, Finn. Good job tackling a touchy subject and expressing yourself.” Mr. Shue clapped as he ushered Finn and Blaine to their seats.
Blaine slid into the seat next to his boyfriend and smiled with Kurt took his hand.
“Thank you for helping him. He has to stand up to her somehow.” Kurt whispered.
“That's what we do for our family, we stick together.”
