Ed watched silently as the blue clad officers filed up to the coffin. In measured, precise steps they reached it, stopped and saluted. Several of their faces were screwed up in effort to stop their tears, while others let them fall freely. They lowered their hands slowly, turned and marched away. Somewhere in the distance Ed heard a bugle begin to play and guns fire off a salute. Everything became muted-he could hear his brother crying and the quiet voice of Riza Hawkeye reassuring him, but it seemed so far away.
With a sigh he turned and walked away from the huddled masses, away from the tears. He glanced back over his shoulder one last time and saw the blank face of his lover and sighed. With a heavy heart he continued into eternity and prayed to the God he still refused believe in that Roy would be alright without him.
