I just need to get this out of my system.
I SAW SHINEE IN REAL LIFE JUST NOW.
Okay, I realise explaining this will reveal what country I'm from, but never mind. Fan account under the cut!
When Lee Minho came to do promotions for Etude House, he was supposed to make an appearance at one of the outlets, which wasn't a smart choice in the first place. I went there and waited, squashed among ajumma and schoolgirl fans alike, waited for three hours or so, only to be told that he wouldn't be coming due to security reasons.
You can guess how frustrated I was that I'd been waiting fruitlessly for someone I wasn't that interested in anyway.
Hence today when I went to the airport I was slightly apprehensive that the same thing would happen and I wouldn't get to see SHINee. My friend said that apparently F.T. Island did this by going through a different exit so they wouldn't be mobbed.
This time I arrived at the airport at about 4:15, and waited around for two hours or so, before we realised where all the barriers were being put up, and then rushed there (getting to be right in front) and waited for another two and a half hours til the plane officially landed (it was even delayed by 40 minutes), and then yet another hour til they appeared.
But the point is, they DIDN'T DISAPPOINT. THEY APPEARED. I GOT TO SEE THEM IN REAL LIFE!!!!
The wait was long and utterly tiring, and the people behind were pushing and practically flush against our bodies, with hands holding cameras and handphones sticking out of everywhere, and random people yelling things like "ONEW OPPA! KEY OPPA! SHINEE!!"
There were plenty of 'false alarms', because being down the end of the line, you'll just scream when you hear the front of the line scream. But I guess they were all terribly excited. There were quite a few posters as well, e.g. "Key Oppa Him Nae!", referring to the passing away of Key's grandmother, and something about "Shinee Appa-deul Yoo Geun...", referring to their Hello Baby! show.
Some people from their group came (I'm guessing managers or stylists or even other artistes performing in the same concert), but they had to wait for the bus to arrive and to board it before SHINee could come through.
So finally, the first one was Taemin, though he was kind of hiding the right side of his face with something (a passport?). Then I saw Jonghyun, with blonde hair sticking out beneath the hat. Key was practically hidden beneath his grey fur-lined hood of his jacket (he must have been melting!), so I didn't even know it was him. Minho followed wearing a white and red jacket as well. They all walked on pretty fast :(
After they'd gone I thought it was over (like I'd missed Key and Onew somehow), when there were more screams, and then Onew came! And he was so cute, he pushed his trolley pretty slowly, and actually looked up and smiled, practically dimpling at us! Furthermore, I was a bit slow to realise it, but I'm pretty sure baby Yoo Geun was there too, in an orange coat in a pram! Maybe some of Hello Baby! will be filmed in Singapore!
For the past two years I've been watching Korean artistes from behind the screen, whether online or on television, and never once in real life. Somehow there's this feeling of unrealness, like they're not really flesh-and-blood to you because they're so unreachable. Well, today seeing them in real life sort of reaffirms my belief in a way. It may sound stupid, but that's how I feel.
