Wanted: Job Coach

Oct 31, 2007 11:11

I've known for years that 9-5 office jobs drive me batty. The only exception was the job that involved some hard publishing deadlines with interesting (at least non-technical) content, that actually ran 6-6 most days. I was so stressed and busy and beating the deadlines that I forgot that I hate office jobs.

But anyway. I can't seem to get out of the habit of finding desk job after desk job. It just seems -- safe. And easy. I know how to do this. But it's not what I really want to do.

So I need a little help breaking this habit. Are there job coaches out there? Someone who can help us make job transitions and figure out all the logistics involved?

Here's what they can help me with:

  • Become self-employed: Help me figure out how to file taxes, buy insurance, write work contracts, etc.
  • Find job leads: I still like writing and editing. I'd just rather do it at home, in bed, or at a coffee shop. I like being busy. How do I find lots and lots of leads, sell my services, and generate repeat customers?
  • Start doing voice-over work: I know I'd be great at this. How do I get started? Take classes? Which classes? Do a voice demo? What should be included? And then, how do I book gigs?

Seriously, if there is a job coach out there who'll help me set all this up, I will pay them for their services!
