“Oh, for. . .” Loki fumed. He sighed as he heard the words of his mother swirling. She’d tell him to be calm and try again. She’d show him patience, more than he’d give himself. She’d give him praise for trying, and she’d encourage him to keep trying.
He’d taken baby steps for far too long with his magic. He needed to step it up massively. He felt that Thor was taking greater steps in his training. But Loki realised his skill set was greater than his blundering elder brother, for Thor only thought of a king as a warrior, and Loki felt there was much more to it than that, and quite rightly so. He grew in confidence everyday. He only wished his magic would follow suit.
Even though he had a great skill set before him, Loki wanted to add to it; not only new skills, and tricks, but he wanted to make those tricks he’d learnt better. To make them greater somehow, to perform them faster. He’s ambition wasn’t a crime, and his magic should not be punishing him for trying.
He sighed again as he cleaned up his self-inflicted injury. He should try again. He wanted too. But he’d suffered too many failures today.
Still he drive told him otherwise. He could make it work, he knew he could. Frigga words swirled around his head showing support, understanding and encouragement. He’ll do it.
He closed his eyes, focused on his breathing for a beat or two then begin the spell to heal himself. He opened his eyes and sighed, deflated to see that it hadn’t work again. Countless were the times he tried and failed, but he was relentless, until this time.
He looked closer and saw he’d stopped the bleeding. His skin still hadn’t healed completely, but a victory is still a victory no matter how small.
