I go to Briar Cliff University, and one thing that makes my school different is that we use a trimester system rather than semesters. Three terms a year, the first goes from the start of school till Thanksgiving break, the second is usually over around Valentine's day, and the third obviously is in May. Our breaks tend to fall around the same time as schools on a semester system (most schools get time off for Thanksgiving, we just happen to get a week and a half). I like this system for several reasons, the first being that we can take more courses in a year, which makes it easy to double major and still get done in a respectable amount of time. I also like the fact that things change more frequently. I dont know about anyone else, but the thought of going back to having the same classes Sept-December kind of bores me. In the trimester system, classes are done sooner, right as you are starting to feel kind of burnt out.
This leads me to the downsides--less time to procrastinate because the classes move faster, and we have THREE sets of finals each year rather than two, however, midterms aren't as big of a deal. I have finals next week, and I'm feeling pretty good...I finished all of my papers, reflections, journals, and projects YESTERDAY. Most of them were due today or Monday, which means...I DIDN"T PROCRASTINATE!!!
...or at least, I didn't procrastinate as much as normal.
After term break, I only have ONE MORE TERM of regular classes and I gets to graduate!! I do plan on walking in the ceremony, which is open to the public as far as I know, and anyone who reads this who wants to come is definitely welcome. The ceremony is May 15th and 10:00 AM downtown at the Orpheum. I'm so happy I could just about burst, as I have been in college longer than "normal" (I know I know, everyone goes at their own pace...) and most people my age have already graduated and have jobs in their field, or are working on a masters. But I'm not sorry, not really. I have been to 3 different schools, and each one has given me a lot of knew experiences and perspectives. I have taken a lot of classes purely for enjoyment, and I know a lot of times in order for people to graduate in the standard 4 years, they don't get to take those classes "just for fun."
I do plan on having a graduation party of some kind, but probably nothing major, maybe dinner and bowling with my friends and family...I haven't thought much about it, since most of my planning brainwaves have been consumed by wedding stuff (even though wedding is over a year away, and graduation is only a few months, but who said I was ever logical?)
Well, I better clear out of this computer lab for the people trickling in who have NOT finished their papers for the term! haha SUCKAS!
