I've heard a number of distinctions made as regards written dialogue for a novel or a screenplay vs. conversation. Those distinctions are so many and so varied that I simply have to confess I don't know what the distinctions are anymore.
Have you a concise definition for each, or for either, that you use when writing? How do you ensure that you are writing good dialogue instead of just generating conversations between characters?
