Linky crap.

Middle class greens in hypocrisy shock. "Questioned on their heavy use of flying, one respondent said: 'I recycle 100% of what I can, there's not one piece of paper goes in my bin, so that makes me feel less guilty about flying as much as I do.'"

Pick of LJ: (1) iCarly fanfic (2) Tolkien fans arguing about how Lord of the Rings is literature (or at least is more literary than Jeanette Winterson). Apparently academics don't like it because it's about nothing. To their credit nobody takes the Daily Mail argument of "if Tolkien was a lesbo we'd all be forced to read it!" It's nice how half the people are arguing that it's just a good story with no hidden meaning and the other are saying it's really deep and full of big themes and symbolism. And somebody is complaining because she wasn't allowed to study Star Wars on a folklore course. (I say, why is it considered wrong to take heroin but ok to read "great stories"? Pleasure should involve hard labour!)

Yay! Telegraph hatchet job on the new book by world's most famous Scot Sean Connery, a man who's never been in a Scottish film (unless you count Highlander) and hasn't lived in Scotland for decades.
